Those with Manual Transmission...why?

every other truck ive owned was manual, my last 17 2.7 4x4 was a manual, my 16 is an auto. next one- back to manual, more fun! and my wife wont be able to drive it hahaha

 

My Tacoma is my first ever automatic vehicle. The “fun” factor of driving a stick shift is wearing off and I’m only 33 years old. I HAD to drive a stick when I was 16-25 years old. The older I got, I just didn’t care anymore. I like the convenience of the auto. My other car (Mustang) is a stick, so that was a determining factor too.

Same here, but it has come back to bite me a few times haha. I think we're good for the long run, but if I trade the truck on a Sienna, ask me what happened.

 

The only automatic I owned in the last 5 years was the 18 Raptor. And for most of the driving I do, which is getting around town, the automatic was infuriating. If I really need to get up and go I would stomp on the throttle and hoped that fancy 10 speed computer will decide to downshift and go. I sold it for a crazy price, but that's not much different resale wise than a TRD Pro.

As for the when you have high HP you don't need manual saying, no way! I was curious while I was looking for my 16 Challenger Hellcat, and test drove the hellcat Charger (which only comes with automatic sadly). It was boring and really not any different than any other big power automatic big sedans. I mean, you get in, turn on the vehicle, put it in D, and fall asleep. Now the manual however, first, second, third you lift and it backfires gloriously! Rev matching that 707HP motor was something else. Most of all, it's the direct drive line connection, there's no slush, no wait, you tell it, it does what you tell it to do.

Which brings me to the manual TRD Pro, it's the direct connection, you give throttle, it moves in response, that's what it's all about.

Oh and yes I did own a proper single clutch auto back in the E46 M3 days. It clunks and jerks just like a manual if you don't lift between shifts, because well, it's simply a clutch connected to some hydraulics. But it also makes for a terrible automatic in auto mode, which is why car companies switched to dual clutch and added creeping with brakes on, no thanks, might as well get a full on slush. And that is exactly where we are now, 8 and 10 speed auto for that perfect creeping self driving experience.

We'll probably do a rolling deposit and get a 22 Pro manual in whatever the 22 TRD color will be as well.

 

I had an '08 FJC in auto and did not like it -- that was the last automatic transmission that I have owned.

Haha no no still have the truck. We’re working on lessons as a compromise. Let me know if there’s somewhere I can invest in starter manufacturers.

 

Finally burned through a little over a quarter tank in 100 miles with a 13.9mpg.

No wonder the auto has a gutless wonder rep, at 21mpg the computer is short shifting with zero power.

 

Control over the vehicle. Person smarter than computer (not all persons haha).

Enjoyable to drive.

We miss our MTs, only have autos now...

That's odd man. I put the mt-90 in at around 2k miles on the truck. First was really sticky and some times 2-3 would be a bit sticky. After the redline the only time I notice anything that isn't smooth is when cold into first. Love the mt-90!

 

It's quickly becoming a lost skill to drive a manual. Just doing my part to keep the art alive. I also still have a collection of Vinyl records.

I drove a manual 4Runner from 2004-2009. It was fun for a while but eventually it just becomes a hassle. I would rather just be able to relax and drink my coffee. The torque-on-demand from the manual is nice but it definitely has its trade-offs.

 

The funny party of this is that 10 speed raptor would smoke that TRD PRO even with a tune and supercharger.

 

That is never the point. For me, rowing gears on a curvy road is a slice of heaven. Creeping along in 1st in a traffic jam is great for me too. I have yet to drive an AT that didn't frustrate me. Just a personal thing.

 

Absolutely. Some of these dudes are not cut out for manual transmission and the comments show!

 

That is very interesting. Living in CA traffic sucks and I would never want to clutch it through stop and go for hours. I drive my truck with AT for that shit and drive my car with MT for random pleasure stuff

 

Yeah, it takes a real man to row gears. LOL
