Talked to a local dealership, was told frame recall expired July of 2020. Regardless of the warranty, I doubt it my rust situation will be covered from it. It looks worst than it is, mostly being surface rust not rotting. Will start doing rust treatment/undercoating once it warms up :)

Out of warranty is out of warranty. Thats not surface rust though dude, not even being a dick, things probably got 3-4 soft spots already sadly. Owned a truck with a frame just like yours.

Unfortunately, you will find out real quickly what usually is a 5 minute bolt install for the missing sway bar bolt will be filled with cursive language, bruised knuckle, strained back, and skid marks on the underwear.
And yet, end result will be the same as before.

Rust killed my daughter's 2002 4Runner way before it's time. She drove it to Texas when she moved and a few months later stuff just started to fall off it. The mechanic she brought it to said he never saw so much rust. He said that the differential housing was rusted through and it would be more money than the truck was worth to fix it.

She ended up with a Civic Hybrid, which she likes, but doesn't love.

Don’t get me wrong, rust will kill a vehicle (especially Toyota’s) and the OPs probably isn’t too far off. It’s just amusing the reactions a photo with rust gets around here.

Yep. Judging from some of the over the top reactions here, a lot of posters need to get out more. My first truck(a Chevy) had holes rusted through the bed. When I was a kid my Mom's car had a 6" hole rusted through the floorboard where I sat. Dad covered it with plywood. Saw a <5 year old BMW SUV yesterday with body rust and wood or aluminum flatbeds are seen every day here.

Moral to the story--it's a big world, not every location is all incense, peppermints, and puppy dogs 24/7/365. Folks should check out life outside their suburban shopping malls.

When I finally replaced my 1972 Corona, it had Flintstone style holes in the floor boards. I couldn't patch them because there was nothing to weld the patches to.

Early Toyotas were great mechanically, but the sheet metal came pre rusted.

I get it. Rust is expected from northern areas but c'mon, even to a certain extent its unacceptable. Frame rust treatment is mandatory. How can you not think these shocks will handle many more compressions before it snaps. Same goes for any other suspension components. You can see holes at the attachment point of the swaybar end links which is the part in question in the original post.

You know that probably more than 3/4 of the country doesn't salt the roads, right? You think everything outside of the NE is suburbs?

That is not a hole, it's a shadow reflection. I have gone through the entire car and so far no rots anywhere.

For people that don't have a garage living in salted area, you going to expect the undercarriage look similar to this especially for cars 10+ yr old.

Fyi, I do take care of my cars. I just acquired this truck and planning to revive it before get worsen.

My 2015 sits outside year round in a state that salts (heavily might I add) and this past season sprayed the chemical crap too. I wash my truck maybe once or twice a year and my frame still has the undercoating on it and barely any rust. :notsure: That's excessive to me. Even my beater 99 Grand Am that I never washed had less rust than this. That's excessive IMHO and should've been a concern a lot sooner than now.
Good on OP though for seeing this and taking the initiative to start applying undercoating. I pray your frame lasts.
