Reverse Light Sensor?

Hey guys can anyone help me identify this sensor on the passenger side of my transmission? I think it's my reverse lights switch but I want to know for sure before I go get parts or take it off. As you can see it's leaking pretty bad and needs to be fixed.

1 check fluid level
2 fill transmission fluid while parked on level surface until fluid is just below filler. Not till it flows out freely.
3 if transmission is over filled with fluid expect oil from BREATHERS
I think this pic is a reverse image because of the transmission drain plug on driver side as is the breather above which does not have an extension like Tcase and front differential.

 

Try tightening it?

84210-52050, and you are correct on sensor location. It should not be the issue with leaking.

 

What do you mean it shouldn't be the issue with leaking?

 

Your transmission may be over filled. Check the fluid level on flat ground through the fill hole plug to rule out the potential problem.

 

Transmission fluid level should be slightly below fill, not till it runs out freely.
People tend to overfill tranny's, Tcases, front diffs and post here about smells, leaks and fluid from the breather extensions under hood.

 

Yeah, I get that but I haven't filled or touched the fluid in my transmission in like 3 years. So if it was an overfilling problem wouldn't it have shown up before now?

 

Not if your breather was stuck and let go after going from low temps to hot while highway driving. When was the last time you saw the transmission without the leak?
I changed fluid last winter and didn't get leak from breather and smell until highway trip in August.

 

Maybe a week ago I try to get under my truck once a month to check for things. I also haven't had it on the highway in months. I barely get it up to temp most days. I could definitely see the breather getting plugged and having it blow out through the reverse switch.

Pull the shifer and cover
The reverse switch and breathers are accessible for service.
Breathers and Reverse switch are pretty inexpensive to have on hand while you're in there.
You may be on to something about switch leak when breather is Kaput.

I know this is an older post, but I’m having the same issue with fluid seeping from the backup sensor. What did the problem end up being? Was a breather blocked? Or was fluid leaking from the sensor?

 

Same. I went to swap out my sensor and found a lot of dried fluid all around it. Seemed like the sensor was screwed in tight.
