When I initially installed it it was without the hook as the supplied hardware wasnt long enough to accommodate them, than I realized the stock hooks were more convenient and stronger

Ironicly the aftermarket hardware snapped so I ended up putting the stock bolts and hooks back on with the bumper

Speaking of, I don't know where one of my shackles went

I know I left the two on the Tacoma when I sold it, don't know where one is after I found a third one in my bin.

 

One of mine got lost in a parking lot the other resides on my garage floor after bending my bumper durring the only time I used those recovery points

Stock hooks never let me down plus with the bumper clear the no longer existant plastic piece under the stock bumper

 

That's a good price.

 

Idk if you know this but there's 2 mounts in the back where you can bolt tow hooks to

 

Right below the plate, you'll see the left spot -

 

And here I am running a rope into the receiver and threading the pin through it, what a newb.

 

This is why I buy the HF ones, they go missing from the cab mysteriously and theirs are only like $8 each

I like the soft shackles but I don't want to lose a $40+ soft one

You're talking about using a rope instead of a shackle? Idk guess it depends on the quality of the rope. Not much different than a soft shackle I guess

 

Are those strong enough to be used?

There's load strengths, tensile, shearing, etc. for anything that's threaded. Didn't know if those were strong enough for recovery use.
