No that’s an uncorrected speedo. So I’m a actually getting better mileage then what it shows and also traveling more miles then what the odometer states. It’s been pretty consistently getting 21mpg for my commute to work.

Jeez, Ive got 33’s (285/75/16) on mine with a lift. I average around 17 mpg around town. Better than that on the highway but I no longer drive like an asshole since retiring. How you drive has more effect on mpg than tires. My truck isn’t sluggish and doesn’t have any problems going up grades. I sure as hell have never had to “floor it” to pass.

Whoever wrote that is on crack...

Depending on where I drive. Ive found on highway miles going from VA to NC, Ill get 19 mpg without manual calculations. On my daily commute, 45 miles each way to work, I get 14mpg on the tac.

Im geared and on 35s and have armor.

For the most part, it is still a truck. I’ll have 285 installed on 17x9 wheels with a lift. I may loose 1 mpg, so it is not so painful. The engine has lots of power to begin with. I don’t intend to race the Taco and speed with it. Love my taco plus I don’t have to worry about snow from now on.

This is with 285/70R17's and this is my common MPG, got 21.6 the other week heading to my dads house (no pick of that as I honestly did not think it was a big deal until reading these threads).

As for gearing... if you drive it like a truck and not a sports car it has more then enough power even with 285's (not sure about bigger tires) I have never lacked any power to pass, go up hills (often passing other vehicles), off road or mall parking lots (if that is your thing). If I wanted to do 0-60 in under 5 seconds I would get a Tesla.

Nope, I said drive it like a truck.. not like a scooter. I do keep it to only 5 over the posted speed limit though as my work requires me to keep a clean MVR. I have zero issues merging with traffic and never had issues with keeping up with the flow.

Yeah I am about 600-700 feet (around 200m) above Sea level myself, so that might have an impact on my MPG

I do have to say power wise though 285/70's drives fine here, I mean relatively speaking.
Even stock it felt like it screaming for mercy going up to the mountains.

You will have rubbing though and need to trim plastic and cab mount chop if you plan on taking the truck off road with this tire size.

Beyond 285/70's you are going to need to butcher your wheel wells and nobody can convince me otherwise lol.
Not sure why so many pepe on this forum try and tell people they run 35's full stuff no problem... I feel so bad anybody that falls for it.

I am currently saving for the 4.88 and supercharger which will make this truck will be a magical experience.

    Okay, I'm done rambling now.

You could run 35’s depending on the suspension setup. I have 34’s and haven’t “butchered” my wheel wells. I moved the fender liner about an inch forward and trimmed the bumper to follow that contour. If you approached my truck and didn’t know what the bumper looked like stock you would think it was factory.

I test fit 34s at my buddy's tire shop and when testing fully articulated it was immediately apparent to have it to be fully functional off-road would require butchering.
If you soley want 34's for aesthetics and don't use the the truck to it's full ability then yeah you can get away with it.

Hence the “depends on your suspension setup” statement I made. If you have long travel then you will require more cutting. However, if a person knows what they are doing and does a proficient job then it will never look like it was “butchered”. But to each their own.

By "butchering" I mean "cutting up".
I don't think someone asking about mpgs from putting 33's on is considering long travel.
Most people who preach they can stuff their 35's don't have long travel.

I'm not trying to start a war with you but when people say you can fit 35's with some minor molding/trimming and will still have a fully functional truck off road they're doing them a disservice. They never say you need to get long travel do a super deep can chop mount, cut your body work higher, new fender flares, and get rid of your liners and then you'll only rub in reverse off road.

I never personally seen anyone say that on TW, however I don’t doubt those people frequent this site. However, again as you even yourself said it depends on the suspension setup at play. Some don’t run long travel, and have no need to do so. They in that form can run 35’s just fine. If anyone thinks they can run long travel with 35’s and not require extreme cutting then they have more issues other than being possibly gullible.
