I think you did great. I probably would have done a patch, and limited the need for bridging. I always try to limit the need to change heat/feed or time at the repair. Cars and trucks are the most INCONSISTANT welding you can do. Even new cars. When those panels are stamped new, there are changes in metal thickness because of stretch. 20 years later, with rust it's even worse. Starting at 18ga and ending at 24ga....ahahahahahha. Good work man, it's all about time and learning. Get the ground as close as you can to the work. It helps.

Looks like something I would have done using parts on hand to get the truck able to move.

Then get the correct parts on the shelf most likely remind myself every oil change and give the new parts away when I give the truck away a few years later

Thanks man! Didn't even think to try to just cut more out and patch vs salvaging what I had.

    Coming out great!

It's because everyone loves to weld. It's a man's thing. LOL. Why would anyone take the time to hammer a dimple into a triangle, trace off the shape onto the floor, cut it out, place the new patch into the hole and weld it up? Nooooooooo, we're men, and we like fire and smoke and throwing shit. Oh, and cussing a lot, beer breaks and calendars with naked chicks too. We are a beer commercial waiting to happen. Nice job dude.

A good friend of mine owns a powdercoat place across the street from my work. We trade stuff out, he paints, I weld, etc. He bought a new GMC AT4 with the fold down tailgate and bought this hitch. He ordered the wrong one, his tailgate hit it. Instead of sending it back, he gave it to me and ordered he correct one.

I had to cut the 2 1/2” tubing off and switch it to 2” and also cut some of the length off the bottom. He powdercoated it green so I would know if anyone borrowed it. I would never buy one but I couldn’t refuse it :D

Working on the bed bars. Gonna have to break some scrap out and practice some more. But for what is basically first time welding tube like this... its not pretty but I think it might hold.

I think those look fine. The jobs I do, welds look like that. I'm not gonna worry, too much. I know it's solid and it's getting painted anyways.

It was a pleasure. The fact that folks are open to suggestions is very cool. I'm not a smart guy but I've screwed up a few things in my life and it's time to share...ahahahahha. Glad I could help.

EDIT; Not welding but I did some more sheet metal last week. I'm more interested in folding aluminum right now ithan welding. The front bumper is a idea waiting to happen tho...lol

Has anyone used the razorweld 45 amp plasma that Langmuir recommends for their crossfire pro table?

    Never even heard of them.

EDIT It appears they have been around since the 80's so that's a positive. They clearly have a narrow market.

Being a Dealer for RazorWeld Langmuir I guess they can make a good package deal.

Being the tables are on the smaller side (though I did not look real close) The 3minute duty cycle should not be a major problem. For most personal home use.Unless close to cut capacity .

Having Service in the Seattle area is a plus better then none at all.

I have yet to see any in this part of the country.

Few years back I was able to pick up a length of heavy duty cable that was miscut and the odd length of 24 foot. I ended up paying $15.00 for it an I did not hesitate when the clerk told me the price.

    20210309_083306.jpg

So this monster is my extension cord for my welder and it runs off a 50 amp rv outlet mounted under my main panel.

    20210309_084229.jpg

Plug the cord in, close the cover and run it through one of the doors. Either the side door or the garage door. It was ment as a temporary solution, but it has worked out so well that I have not added the interior 240v outlet.
