Someone did something like that if I remember right, it was for making an RTT into a hunting blind

 

Luckily I just cut one of the flaps that keeps the zipper seams dry. Wasn’t structural or important to anything. I could probably sew it if I really wanted to lol.

The annex really does suck to set up though. If all your truck does is stay stationary for days then it’s not a big deal

 

Or just get a nice ground tent at that point

 

yeah I wouldn't do the whole annex thing especially on a trip like that one, where we needed our trucks to run the trails during the day.

I'm probably going to sell my RTT soon, hardly use it enough to justify it anymore and don't have a good place to store it. And once we do start camping with my daughter it's not big enough for 3 people, and I definitely don't want one of those enormous hotel sized RTTs over the back of my truck. Back to ground tents go I

 

Nice ground tents are nice, but the stupid 2 man tents that are really for 1 person suck.

That being said, the only real ground tent experience I have is just the ones you back pack with, I've changed to a parachute hammock for that.

 

Those are really comfy

 

Yeah backpacking tents are great for long hikes but suck to sleep in lol. Especially if you have to share one

For offroad/camping trips I would get a big family sized ground tent for sure.

 

Gotta have a decent sleeping bag though, any cool breeze seems to amplified.

 

I could easily fall asleep on a hammock, but never went that route for backpacking.

Imagine you'd have to carry a fair bit more insulation where you're at; post up what you end up going with when you do.

My ultralight tent is some 5-6 years old...would like to maybe try a hammock instead on my next trip.

They are the REI ones, I assume they are good IDK...they're my dad's. He's the hiker in the family so when he invites me to go I borrow his gear lol.

They're small AF though compared to a normal ground tent, I get why though...gotta fit them into your pack along with 40lbs of other gear.

 

Yeah definitely will take advantage of that site; Sierra's are quite a bit colder so I'll have to buy more backpacking shit for colder weather.

 

I've already got 2 nice UL hammocks; referring to what you use for insulation/bottom piece that'd be comfortable.

 

Some sort of mummy bag for back packing is all I've used.

I have the 2 and 3 person version of this tent - The 3 person goes with me if I'm backpacking with someone else and we split up the weight which means less than 2lbs per person.

The 2 person weighs under 3lbs total.

 

Yeah they look exactly like that but have the REI logo on them. I had to share one with my brother when we hiked/camped in the Yosemite backcountry for 4 days. By the 3rd night it smelled like moldy cheese and rotten eggs in that small tent we shared

 

yeah, two unshowered dudes eating freeze dried meals for 4 days and sharing a small tent...should've packed an air freshener
