I have one of the @7r41lbr34k3r shift knobs with his delrin adapter (works like stock), and it fits fine. I think it sits slightly higher than stock, but not by much. I stretched the inner stock boot around the shifter, installed the CORE boot, then the outer stock boot. Just looking at it, aside from the knob, you would never know it wasn't stock.

Thanks! This is exactly the setup I would run if I go the CORE route. Does Richard (Trail Breaker) sell adapters that allow the standard Toyota thread to attach to the core shifter? If so, I’ll contact him when/if the time comes.

you will need to get the adapter separately. the Core is 3/8-16.

how heavy is the knob you have? i used a 700g monster on my URD stocker, but i use a knob under 200g for the Core. totally different feel so how the weight is on your stock unit will feel very different on the Core and you may like different weighting possibly.

No, it's under $15 shipped from a bunch of places linked in this thread. It was talked about and linked to (by me and others) within the last few pages.

How does the parking brake boot come off? Do you just wiggle it off over the handle?

I found it easier to pop it out of the console and leave it attached to the lever. Its just a loop of wire that clips into the underside of the console.

I basically did this as well... sorta just left the console connected to the parking brake and rotated it out of the way. It wasn't super elegant, and was honestly a bit of a pain to work around, but worked fine in the end.

    Oh man…
My parking boot slipped right over the handle no problem. Went right back on also.

Looks good. The flex head ratchet wrench is the way to go.

Also, anyone else find that getting into reverse takes significant effort?
Pushing the stick to the far left, the spring(?) mechanism is really strong.

    Does that improve over time?

On the factory shifter, there was no resistance and it was always a question as to whether you're putting in in R or 1st, but with the Core shifter, it takes some serious muscle to go to R.

I don’t think it breaks in much, but you do get used to it. I actually appreciate the increased resistance to get into reverse as you will be less likely to accidentally select it instead of first. I also use more a slapping motion (momentum) to get into reverse vs. just slowly trying to select reverse.

Just a quick update. Core-shifters says they're still a few months out from getting their stock replenished due to the continuing supply chain issues. Patience will be tested for all of us waiting!

It definitely takes more effort than stock, but I think some of that is the additional precision required to get it in the gate. I had the habit and muscle memory of a slap motion for reverse already so it didn't take much to get used to. I feel like mine has broken in a tiny bit, but not much. I think you just get used to it after driving a while. Regardless, the feel of shifting the rest of the gears far outweighs the minor increase in difficulty of reverse for me.

I’m actually happy to hear this! One of the reasons I want to move to a short throw shifter is to firm up reverse. I’m one of those who will get too aggressive with the stick in a panic situation and fly past first into reverse. Doesn’t happen often but it does happen.

Firm up is an understatement when you are comparing to the floppy stock shifter with the rubber isolator in it.

Yes but it’s way better IMO. Just like others have said, I really appreciate the fact it’s harder to accidentally throw it in reverse. Slap method - this is the way
