I've built 2 by myself in years past with a Chiltons and a pointer torque wrench! You can do it! (Except machine work!)

 

I've always wanted to rebuild an engine but I never had the opportunity or time to do it

 

I wanted to put a 302 out of my mustang and rebuild it and borrowed out and all that stuff but it was my daily and I couldn't have it sit

 

Once you get it blown apart, degreased (steam cleaning works great), and mounted on an engine stand, it's just an exercise in patience. And you just cover it up with plastic dry-clean bags when it's waiting for you!

 

People say that ford 302 is really easy to rebuild so are chevy 350

 

That's good to know it can be done, i am just a backyard mechanic so I'm a bit hesitant to give it a go, but i think it'll go together more quickly if i'm doing the work.. I am getting tired of having issues with the daily driver, so it's time to do something about it to fix it if possible

 

I've seen your work - doing it is well within your wheelhouse!

 

Thanks buddy, this is definitely encouraging. Gonna have to start doing my research

 

1. While you read stuff, you can start your old tear down.
2. When you have the block cleaned and inspected (I used Kalamazoo Speed Shop), THEN they can tell you if you need to build back to stock, .010 over, .020 over etc. (or however they metric it), then you know the ring and piston stuff to get.
3. Get the best bearings and gasket sets you can.
edit - and CLEAN everything till you can eat off it, and use lots of assembly lube!

I mean unless you're paying for the fuel and vehicle yourself id rec a gas engine. Diesel is ok until you need to fix something. The parts can be super expensive. I'm not sure on the smaller diesels but at least for my f250 the prices rival exotic. But I also turned it into something racey so I guess theres that too. If I were doing the thing id prob look into a Chevy express or something. Just my opinion.

It is tempting but i was worried about the 05-06 head gasket issue.. With my luck i'd swap that in and then need to do head gaskets haha
