Transmission Tuning 2020 Tacoma

Come to West and show me 2200 rmps on climb 1500 feet in 4 miles , while maintaining 55. You can have empty bed and empty tank.

 

What expectations? i came from a gen1 4.7 v8 tundra. This truck performs nearly the same except for more overdrive. Granted these's trucks are not 6.2 gm gassers, or cumming diesels, but come on man, give them a break.

 

Yeah, well driving at 3k+ wears your rings and valve train out. Trust me i've wasted enough good motors in my lifetime doing that.

 

3k+ rpms is tacoma standard rpms on 70 mph speed limit mountain highway staying in 4th and keeping up with semi's....

 

Why are you in this thread? OP asked about tuning his transmission and everyone else has given him advice on how to do that. Meanwhile you are yammering on about cumming diesels.

 

I'm only questioning why these transmission's need tuning. Sounds more its either a hit or a miss the way these tacoma run. Question is why? Btw...its cummins. This computer has a habit of spelling its own words after a reply.

I would also recommend the TSB mentioned by Mark in post #2. At least to start. It's free and some people seem to be happy with it. That thread has gone 40 pages and they are not all complaining about the temperature of their garbage.

 

So doin 80mph up hill holding 5,500 rpm isn't a good idea? I routinely do that. We'll see how reliable Toyota is I guess haha.

 

You didn't mention for how long, but sustained 3k rpm use isn't great for long engine life.

 

Minutes at a time. I do tend chew through transmissions though. So that'll probably fail before the engine.

 

Well...its not good, but better than an hr. My brother owned a 2001 highlander with a 3.0 v6 that he would runabout 75 minutes to work everyday at 60-70 mph with the engine turing 3k rpm. At 90k the engine was toast smoking, and burning a qt of oil every 100 miles. Toyota told him he needed a new motor, but he traded it in for a new one. Found out when he got the new highlander this one had overdrive and would run around 2000 rpm at that speed.

 

So your saying the Tacoma is designed for legal speeds but, if you break the law it drives like shit. Lol

 

Our speed limits here are 70. If you're doing under 80 you're going to get passed by a grandma in her Buick. And she'll probably flip you off on the way by...

 

75 mph is the legal speed limit here.

 

Its 45 mph for local roads, 50 for some of the more open 2 lane highways, and 55 to 70 on our major rt's, and interstates depending on more congested areas. Some places you can run 80+ and vehicles do, but its a crap shoot you may get nailed.
