That's your personal preference and it is just fine. I live in Seattle traffic and enjoy the hell out of it.

The primary thing here is that folks have a choice and are not rammed down a path because automakers want to keep negating 5% here and there, which kills significant chunks of options.

I chose MT because 1. none of the kids today can drive a manual so its much harder to steal. 2. I have always loved manuals and have learned my whole life on them. and 3. I mainly use my truck for offroading so it is perfect for what i need it for.

I chose a manual because I learned to drive on one. I feel more connected to the vehicle. I love being able to lug my truck when I need to or get the torque when I need it. My wife and friends never ask to drive my truck. To me, the 3rd pedal is a what makes it cool.

I love when people ask to borrow my truck to move something then decline when I ask them if they know how to drive manual. It is a self correcting issue!

Yeah, I think it comes down to convenience and me not being old and stuck in my ways. Manual is less convenient and not needed in stop and go traffic. Hence why I drive my MT car for other things

Mine is one of four Taco’s on my street. All the others are Autos. I like that mine is a little bit ‘different’. All of my other cars and trucks are custom and one of my neighbors recently asked if I swapped the MT into my Taco myself :p

My Taco is not my daily driver but does see it’s share of So.Cal. Traffic with a side of coastal, beach-city, narrow, hilly street driving for good measure. I’m still happy with my choice.

I believe it is gone for the 2020 models and up. The new drivetrain was launched a year before the body update, which looks to be more like a big mid-cycle refresh than a ground up change.

My current Tacoma is the first vehicle I've owned (not including my wife's cars) that wasn't a MT. If it weren't for my metal left TKA knee and all the rehab that went with it, I'd still be driving one.

Sure and it got boring like every other automatic vehicle with power. Put 20k miles on it and was done with it.

Charger hellcat was boring after a few minutes of test drive because you are just a passenger along for the ride. We are waiting on a 2021 manual F8 green hellcat challenger because a manual is never boring.

And in my pre kids days I DD’ed a GT2 and put 36k miles on it with majority of it in LA stop and go traffic. It was always an event and I never once wished that it would drive itself, even with that non assisted clutch.

Seems some should clearly stick to their A/Ts. Really - no one has to have one!

I find AT vehicles simply boring - they are transportation appliances. Yes - still useful - but do I want one? not at all...

Most of the whining seems to be about driving in traffic. Driving in traffic is not a fun activity - however it is not an issue at all due to an M/T. In traffic, I do not notice the shifts - they just happen. Yes - it is not as fun as in the open road... And Yes - you have the ability to cruise in the apropriate gear managing the flow of the traffic. - not racing up to the car in front of you and then slamming on the brakes like may do...
In slow traffic - in an A/T you have to keep on the brakes ALWAYS. Not so in the manual.

There is no 'additional superhuman' effort necessary in an M/T in traffic - it is 'muscle memory' or something. It just happens. Therefore it is not a chore.

    - If the knees cannot handle it (Really? my dad is mid 80's with knee surgeries on cronically bad knees, and can do it!) - I am sure there are many other contributing issues already at play - and it is not having to do with a manual gearbox or clutch pedal!

If starbucks' and its $8 sugary concoctions are what determine what you do, and the vehicle you drive; then there is little to be helped... I'm not afflicted by a coffee addiction. - buy Starbucks stock; not their products, I used to say in the 90's! - (Same with Apple!).

I do enjoy a PROPER cup of tea - but not in a vehicle!)

I think the skill is very much worth developing.... - in MTB, skiing, and many similar pursuits - there is pleasure in racing down a track, pedalling up a steep climb / taking jumps / doing some tricks, etc. This is not pleasurable for all (especially if you struggle to pedal up a hill / are afraid of heights / do a face plant more often than reasonably expected / rather sit at the TV and not get 'tired'...) but once you get to a certain stage, this is something 'good' and enjoyable.

Hard to explain if it is not understood... I think this is what is going on in the discussion.
