I have a 2016 Sport ACLB MT 4x4... which means no locker. I was trying to find do research on here about another thread or anything about the different lockers but only the air locker from ARB comes up. What other aftermarket lockers are there and does anyone have experiences with them? This could include manual, electronic, or air lockers... and I would only get the rear.

I also have 275/70R18 with a 4inch Zone lift so I may end up regearing in the future - likely just go up to the 4.88 because I won't go any higher than this size tire. If I did regear in the future, I would need a slightly larger differential so how would that effect the aftermarket locker as well? I figured while I have a professional shop regearing for me, they could also install the locker. Let me know any info you guys have about lockers, regearing, and doing it all at once. Thanks.

EDIT: Nitro Gear allows you to pick what gear set you want (4.88 or 5.29) and allows you to pick what lockers you want (front and/or rear). For MT 8.75 diff, only ARB rear air locker is available but the front air locker can be ARB, Harrop, or Eaton from this site https://www.nitro-gear.com/Toyota-Tacoma-Nitro-Gear-Package-p/gptaco2016-8.75-select.htm although most people only go with rear locker unless they are doing heavy rock crawling

EDIT: ECGS also makes a similar kit but still utilizes the ARB air locker

ARB is the only one for your 8.75" rear

@Pablo8 has ARB in the front and rear and he says all is working great, no leaks.

@Pablo8 that kind of brings the question then.. is both front and rear necessary? In other words, would I get by with just a rear locker? I do not plan to be absolutely rock crawling on a mountainside ever. I just figured I could add in the rear locker while they're in there regearing anyways

If you're regearing it'll definitely save you money putting it in the same time. You'll have to get a compressor, they're fairly easy to install yourself. Just be sure you get a place that's done air locker installs before, there's a few things that can get messed up especially during install.

Rear only then, you'll never see a need for a front..be a waste of money.

    Great question.

Does everyone absolutely need a front locker? No. No way. I certainly don't rock crawl. Nor do I go on nasty trails often, frankly. The problem with locking - even the center - ya can't turn!!

I have used the front locker 3 times. All involved steep hill ice when the locked rear was not getting it done. Compressor was already energized, SWITCH ON. Zip right up. I guess lucky one of the front was catching some traction - didn't know that from the 4WD alone engaged. IF NO wheels are getting traction, you are still screwing the pooch, but seems like with 4 locked, two wheels are not just digging holes, IMHO.

Makes sense. I will also have a winch in my rear bumper so if it's so bad that I need TWO lockers then the winch will likely be the safer bet anyways.

Thank you for your help everyone! It's something that's on the radar, just need life to figure some stuff out then I'll be locking with the best of you

If you're going in sand/mud/offroad quite a bit MaxTrax are always good to have whichever setup you have.

I actually have a pair of "Bunker Industries Traction Boards" which are over half the price of MaxTrax because I watched Ronny Dahl on Youtube showing off the cheap version vs the MaxTrax and they held up great. But that's a good note

I'd like to know the answer here too, since I'm pretty much in the same boat as OP.

Checkout my edit I made in the first post. Looks like we have one option for the rear locker and 3 options for the front if that's what you want

Went on the site, found the 8.75 manual locker needed, clicked "Buy Now" and an error appeared on the screen lol

    ECGS, always.

Why hasn't anyone already mentioned this?

This may be a dumb question but if you install a rear manual locker does that affect your electronic limited slip when in 4wd H and the locker is not engaged. In other words do you still have E limited slip?

No, they only suggest a selectable locker (air or electronic). Mind you, I'm speaking from a 2nd gen 8.4 rear diff perspective.
They didn't recommend a manual lunchbox locker for my mostly DD truck, but they didn't tell me to not buy it either.

I had a mishap with a secondhand 3rd member that had a PowerTrax LockRight drop its pins and springs into the ring/pinion. I got 33s and wanted a regear, it was the best decision at the time to get used. Lucked into it really. Worked great until it grenaded.
Since they weren't mine and well beyond warranty dates and miles, I went to them again when I was ready to buy. Got a fresh set of 4.88s and a new LockRight installed because my budget didn't want a selectable lol.
