I just enjoy driving a manual. I also think people are MUCH cooler if I find out they drive a manual...

This is always overlooked. Traffic in an AT is killer on the right leg if you’re used to the left leg doing all the work. It just comes down to what you’re used to, and for me I’m used to the MT because it’s more fun.

Are you comparing your ten year old car to the future?

    I'm being an ass.
My 11 year old MT is definitely not the future.

I think it was a bit of snark seeing that they have an MT?

Either way, the future is EV, which seems to jive with this control freak right here. What folks say about heavy regen brakes works in my head.

Why not l / foot brake while driving an automatic , I've been l/ foot braking with an auto for 45 years

guess you could. It's what you're used to. If I started doing that, good chance I'd punch the brake looking for the clutch when I'm back in the MT.

CVTs are engineered to have 'gears' because peeps don't like stepless anything.

Not sure if its already been said but the axle ratio is lower on the MT vs AT.
Maybe not a reason but a perk.

Because its fun and because gear oil smells better than burnt ATF ! No really besides it being and interactive experience every time you drive,a manual trans doesn’t generally take a shit from one second to the next you generally have a decent amount of warning if your having a transmission issue under normal driving conditions not wheeling . And your brake maintenance is way less , and if you not beating on it the drive train is not stressed as much . A clutch is $250-300 bucks in parts autos either work or it 3k-5 k to replace . I’ve owned several of each and hands down manuals are the superior species!

I think 5.29s on the AT from the factory would have made a ton of folks very happy.

I love most things Toyota but I feel like they have strayed away from there roots, anything with TRD off road on it should at the very least be a manually shifted t case with a variety of options on gearing and they should offer a factory twin stick in the pro’s . At least the reliability and resale is still great but bring something that true enthusiast would line up for .

I chose manual because I always choose manuals. I have driven my share of automatic vehicles as well (2016 Tacoma included), but given the choice I will always go for a manual over an auto. I’ve bought vehicles that only come with an auto (4Runner, Ridgeline) but I always end up missing the manual. I like the engagement, I enjoy the feel of control, and I like the rarity as well. I learned to drive in a manual truck and that will always be my favorite. Currently between my wife and I we have three vehicles, all with manual transmissions and I love it. Autos have come a long way, though they are now getting to a point of extremely complicated engineering. Computers are great, until they don’t function properly. I loved my 2016 Taco, except for the auto. It towed like a dog, constantly downshifted and didn’t like to upshift, and didn’t do well on gas mileage either. With the manual my complaints are solved. I don’t mind rowing my own, even in traffic, and the control of the manual is just far superior for my preferences. In my experience the autos are usually overstated on mpg claims, and manuals understated, though this may just be my driving style as well. To each their own, but given the choice I will always choose a manual.

I agree that we should have manual T cases with neutral and 2Lo selections. Diff options would be nice also since the domestics offer them. Locker options on non-ORs / non-Pros would be nice as would a front locker option.

I'd like to think that the Bronco would force that hand, but the Rubicon didn't nor did the ZR2.

Yeah I find it funny the 4Runners still come with a manual shift t-case but not the Taco.

True in the real world. ATs take the EPA test cycle better than MTs do. But, it is the real world that matters.
