Anybody have any tried and true methods of deterring coyotes? Moving to the Salem area soon and my dogs will try to fight anything that enters the yard

@Anchovy Short of shooting coyotes, nothing will keep them away, they don’t give a fawk and not much bothers them. Best bet would be a good fence

 

Yeah, that’s about what google says too. Do effigies work? I know there’s towns in PA that use effigies to scare away vultures

 

Hard to say for sure, I’m sure it would work at first since they avoid human contact but they are pretty smart and might eventually realize it’s not real. Might be more effective if you were constantly moving it around to different spots through out the yard maybe. I used to work at a park with a beach and we made ply wood cut outs of lol, coyotes haha, to keep the geese off the beach and it worked for a little while but eventually even those dumb creatures realized they weren’t a threat.

 

We've seen a surge in the fox population in my area. Seems that I see them as roadkill on a weekly basis.

Never saw a coyote here though. I would not be surprised if there were some.

 

long island has a growing coyote population, there are a handful of coyotes living in manhattan even now with sightings become more frequent

you for sure have them in PA

google says coyotes are now permanent residents in 49 states except Hawaii

urban coyotes is a topic that has been in the news a lot these last few years here on long island and the down state region of NY

 

How many you want? I got plenty to go around, this time of year it sounds like a frat party out in the woods with all the yipping and howling

 

could just write hunter a note, he will hunt those frat boys for you

Fence?

 

Gonna have to, fencing around 3 acres is gonna be pricey

 

Yeah... three acres is going to cost a bit. Might be cheaper to make your own zombie spikes with branches you can harvest from the woods.

Realistically though, fence the living space as opposed to the whole property.

 

would be better off with a roller bar fence than a spiked fence

coyotes are ver good climbers, but difficult to climb on something that spins and rolls

but they are smart enough to just dig under a fence anyway so... keep that in mind
