I don't exactly remember the difference between long and short. Used to think long term was a long term average of your short term trims but I don't think that's right

Anyway yours are within the normal range it sounds like

No they are supposed to jump around. Fuel trims constantly change with throttle input

Too much data at your fingertips lol. Just something to monitor every now and then. Wonky fuel trims can help diagnose or let you know of an issue

Fuel trims are important on my truck since it’s boosted, don’t want to run too lean or too rich. That’s why I have the AFR Gauge as well. Usually +/- 5 is nominal I believe.

You tow stuff. Set the transmission gauge up.

Short Term Fuel Trim (STFT) is what the engine computer is doing to the fuel mixture right now. ... Long Term Fuel Trim (LTFT) is a longer term average of what the engine computer has been doing to balance the fuel mixture over a predetermined interval of time. Check engine light won't trigger till around 30% but @eon_blue is correct that they should jump around, but your short term should jump around alot more compared to your long term and is okay if it goes above(or below) that 10% happy area. Longterm should not jump around alot and the closer to zero you are the better your engine is running

Till you get someone riding in your truck with you that could pass out from the fumes because you're running too rich all the time:anonymous:

I thought it was an average, good to know. I need to figure out how to get them on my scangauge. I keep my AFRs monitored via the afr gauge which isn't all that different, if something is off too lean or too rich it'll affect that reading.

If I remember correctly in the 01 and later models the front "O2" sensor is actually an AFR sensor? Super important for you since your boosted but unavailable to my pleabian 98 ass. I track the voltages on my front and rear O2 sensor as a constant reminder that even though the check engine light is off, I still need to replace my CAT:pout:

Yeah it's an aftermarket wideband AFR sensor that gets installed right before the first cat, the stock sensors are narrowband I think? Anyway they don't give the kind of accurate AFR that you need for boost
