Still locks out future moisture and salt though. The rust might continue to flake off a bit more as the FF works its way in, but like I said it should stop it from spreading

I just bought Fluid Film. Have a couple of questions:

    1. Can you recommend a sprayer (and flex tube attachment) for me to use? I don’t own an air compressor. Was looking at the HVLP airless electric sprayers. But someone also suggested the $25 Harbor Freight sprayer.

    2. I assume you are supposed to spray inside and outside of the frame?

    thanks

I used a Wagner electric sprayer. Just spray that crap all over everything. Seriously. Everything. Except the exhaust.

I've got 6 cans of the tinted Cosmoline on the way! First 60 degree day and let the spraying comence! Ordered truck in November, got it and parked it in garage for salt season. Really looking forward to driving it!

Yea, I just use the fluid film cans and an extended tube. I got it all off Amazon. It might not be the most efficient but it works for me. I apply it every spring and fall. It takes around 3 or 4 cans and I try to make sure the underside of the truck is as clean and dry as possible. I do the inside of the frame too. Hope that helps.

Just an FYI. Ziebart has rustproofing which is applied inside doors, hood and body panels. The black undercoating is actually tar. It is called soundproofing by them. There’s no rubberized anything

I did something similar with Woolwax. The hose was good for tight spots and inside the frame areas. I found that the regular spray worked better for even coverage of larger areas though.

Just from my experience applying it, a warmer day is better with lots of ventilation. If you can stand dressing up in a hazmat outfit, and safety goggles on a 90 degree day all the better. Preparation is the key. Cleaner the chassis the better. Not sure what you mean by tinted cosmoline, but i only saw it in the amber, or black color. Amber looks fine.

Its what i used. Trucks been though a lot of salt, and water this season. Didn't phase the cosmoline a bit....still looks like i put it on in july. If fluid film it'd be mostly gone. I would need to do it over again in the fall. Really satisfied with the cosmoline rp-342, this stuff is well worth it.

Thanks, but it might not hit 90 all summer in the U.P.. I've got the yellow hazmat tyvek and full face respirator. By tinted I meant the black. Truck underside is clean, only 183 miles on it before I parked for winter. I'll have to get some of those extended hoses from Amazon too.

I don't think a respirator is necessary unless doing the job inside.

More for face and eye coverage, since I'll be laying under the truck.

Yeah thats true, stuff flows a lot better when its warmer. At the very least keep the aerosol cans warm right until you use it

From the reviews it seems like cosmoline is very good, and much more resistant to being rinsed off the frame by water. But I bought 2 gallons of the Fluid film, so going to try that.

The extension hoses are called "whip hoses", right?

Imo, it dries much quicker not dripping all over the tarps i laid down on the driveway. It runs just long enough to seep into all the crevices. I don't know about flowing better in hot weather vs cold, but its a far less messy job when hot. It coats where you spray it not wasting it if it drips. Everyone claims it stinks...fluid films stinks to, smells like old moldy socks.
