So I took my Taco in to have the fan blower motor replaced for a second time. The service guy (same one as last time) pulled my glovebox off to mess with the fan to make sure it needed a replacement (looked for leaves in the fan). After he determined that the fan needed to be replaced he attempted to put the glovebox on, but he was having a great deal of trouble, so I told him that it should not be that difficult to 'click' the hinges in. After continuing to force it and not being successful, I told him I could get down there and do it - done it many times. He said he would be back with a service tech. When he left I got down there and fixed it in about two sec. When he returned I told him what he was doing wrong, he had the middle hinge was aligned wrong and was being smashed, all I had to do was pull it off and fix it. I asked him if he would replace the box since it was his fault, he said he would order one with the blower. The other day he called and told me he was not going to replace the box because the hinges were meant to be flexible/they can bend like that. Now the glovebox opens and closes just fine, but I think he needs to replace it because; 1. He said he would. 2. He is not a service tech so he does not need to be pulling sh!t off my car. 3. I told him he was installing it wrong and 4. all I can think it that damn thing lol. So what do you all think? Should I let it go because there really isnt much damage, or should I make them replace it for the principle of the thing?

Also, I have a good amount of rust building up on the corners of my bumper (more on the exhaust side) so I am going to ask them to replace it, however last time I was in a dealership they told me it was not rust because he could rub off. Its rust! I know rust when I see it, anyone else having this problem with their rear bumpers?

Thank you for your help and input.

    Josh

This is a story told often. Dealership employee damages vehicle then they refuse to make it right. Get them to document your complaint, your lucky it still works. Tell them you'll go elsewhere in the future.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Sh*t like this is part of the reason prices are getting so high on things. Don't do it just to prove a point, since there isn't anything wrong with it.

I have a 2010 Double Cab and my rear bumper has already started rusting on both sides and where the license plate is.

He broke it make them replace it. It may work fine now, but it the future it may cause problems and then good luck making them replace it. Move up the chain..... got to the service manager, then the operations manager, then the dealer principle. Documentation each way. Then if your still not satisfied, with all your proof in hand go to Toyota head office. Then from there, if still nothing the news is always great.

This is an example of how people walk all over others. I have experienced some of the nicest people and this dealership is just not acting appropriated or treating their customers correctly.

Good luck and I hope it all works out for you

I'd be afraid he stressed the plastic hinges; then one day when you've taken off the glove box to replace the filter, the hinge breaks. The glove box is around $200 to replace; and if he manged to damge the posts the glovbox connects to, you're looking at almost $1K to replace the whole segment of the dash. If the dealer told you he'd replace it then reneg on his offer, I'd hold him to it. The plastics in our trucks are very soft and flimsy. If he was forcing it onto the hinge, i too would be afraid he broke it somehow....flexible my ass...

Is that the reason the prices are higher? Or is it because people like him try to do work on vehicle, even though he is not certified, and break stuff? I even told him he was doing it wrong...and I was five feet away!

The damage is to the middle hinge of my glove box. He smashed it in the gap between where the hinge is supposed to 'click' to and the rest of the dash. I had to pry it open a little inorder to make it fit. My concern is that it is not nearly as snuge of a fit as it was - it was smashed together, then pryed open to make fit.

Exactly my concern, one day it may become a problem...I like to think worse case senario, though.

They are about the size of a Sharpie 'dot' on a piece of paper. I have them all over each corner...looks like a little field that has been bombed by rust lol I will take a pic and add.

I would talk to a manager........and just wait for his decision on the issue. I think that would be the best course of action.

For one thing, if you live where the weather sucks in the winter, like the picture with all the snow; & you drive on the salt covered roads, you should expect the rust. It's gonna happen, either park it during winter or move to a better climate. When I lived in Ohio I never drove a nice vehicle during winter & my friends that did would have rust buckets b4 they had them paid for. Now where I live we might get snow or ice 1 time a year & they use sand mostly. If it's bad enough for salt here, everyone freaks & closes anyway & stays home.

If the service center said they would replace it, then you should make him honor his word. Clearly, he is the one that broke the part, and he is the one who told his customer that he would do something about it. With that being said, if the glove box works fine, you shouldn't really get all upset. The last thing you want to do is get labeled as a customer that complains about every picky little thing (my thought is that they will spend more time trying to fight your request than actually trying to work with you. If it is really bugging you, remember that EVERYONE has a boss, and you might as well get it fixed before the car goes out of warantee and they charge you for everything.

My Bumper shows small sign of rust on the underside but not in that amount. It does worry me that it may not last, but in all reality I don't wanna keep that bumper.. Or the front for that matter..

I used my old 86 yota for snow my new truck hasn't seen the snow yet, but the signs of rust showed in less then a few months of ownership. I bought it new in April. Plus I've been in Cali most of the time.

Yeah the same thing for me, that is after letting it go.

That is quite the idiodic response. My 94 never had this problem and this started on the bumper before the weather got crappy...move or don't drive my 4x4 taco in the winter? Major fail!

Very good point, I'm planning the same.
