So we got an inch of cold rain late last week.
And we've topped 60 degrees for a couple days now.

The mountains of snow at the little shopping center don't look much smaller.
Mount Fuckall in front of the Starbucks just looks even more dirty.
Notice in this picture that it has twin summits.
Maybe I shoulda named them the Dirty Tetons (wink wink).

How the heck did they get so dirty?



The one in front of the grocery store isn't quite so dirty...



Any bets on how long it takes for that shit to all melt?

Story Time With Gritto...Part Deux

So I went out to the Club's Rifle Range yesterday...first time since November.
An old trapshooting buddy was there with his fancy schmancy rifle.
He's a retired engineer who just likes to fiddle with stuff.

I shoulda taken a picture but it looks kinda like this pic (except with laminated stock and heavy barrel) that I found with a search:




"What's that?"
(I ask innocently)

"It's my new 6.5 Creedmore with a 50 power scope."

(50 power, mind you)

"WTF are you gonna do with that around here?"
Then out loud I said:
"Whatcha gonna use it for?"

"Long range shooting", he said.

"You going out West or something, cuz the range here at the Club is only 200 yards?...
...though I suppose you could shoot groundhogs for the Mennonite farmers. That would be cool...
...and maybe then they'd let you hunt deer on their land in buck season"
(good luck getting a shot past 100 yards at a deer in the forests here)

"Good idea", he says, "maybe I'll do that."

"Looks heavy", I say.

"Over 12 pounds", he replies.



Then he says:
"I just had the throat of the barrel cut 80 thousandths of an inch longer so I can chamber longer, heavier bullets."



"Cool", I say.


To each their own.
Like I said, he was always one to fiddle with his guns.
Me, if something's working okay, I'm afraid to fuck with it.
