Looks like today would be a good ski day at Mammoth.

    Paint samples were a bust.

    Top to bottom:
    Taupe was too silver
    Green was minty
    Grey was too blue

    :annoyed:

I did pick out some plain white cabinets for our laundry area so I'll grab new samples whenever we go grab those. Probably should have looked up that there's no sherwin williams paint available locally but whatever.

The spiral grooves on the bolt made me think it's a Savage, though I didn't ask.
That's why I chose that picture from my quick search.

But he had a heavy barrel put on it, not quite what I'd call a bull barrel.
And dropped it in a laminated stock, which tends to be heavy as well.

I know I wouldn't want to carry that bitch any distance.
Oh, and that 50 power scope...

    -------------

I make no effort to keep up with new rifle models and stuff.
My deer rifle is an 8mm Mauser made in 1916.
The story is my Grandfather brought it back from the occupation of the Rhineland circa 1919.
It was new, apparently never issued, in an arsenal.

My Dad butchered it whilst "sporterizing" it.
I had it properly done about 25 years ago, barrel shortened to 22" and recrowned.
I initially had a scope put on but decided if I couldn't take a deer with an aperture sight at less that 100 yards...
    ...well....
Besides, scopes are heavy and I never liked hunting from a stand.
Sure enough, I've never taken a shot over 100 yards, often quite a bit closer.
I've always hunted in the deep woods.

This rifle has taken many dozens of deer over 3 generations in my family.

Years ago, I had a Dillon 550B and handloaded metallic cartridges.

These are 8mm (technically 7.92X57mm), loaded with IMR 4895 and Sierra 150gr Spitzers.
Commercial ammo is deliberately loaded a bit weak to account for ex military Mausers that may be in poor condition.
