@cory02taco or anyone else with Yamaha experience. This four wheeler, when I push the starter button I get nothing. The solenoid, when I turn the key on the top two poles where the plug is become hot. The bottom two are hot all the time. Both fuses are good. What am I missing? Solenoid bad?

I can short the cables on top and get it to turn over. I took the switch apart and cleaned it too.

I also sprayed a little ether in the air filter housing and heard it run for 3 seconds :D

The kill switch is notorious for going bad. Id replace that first or see if its stuck on for sine reason

This key is off and on, it has push button start. Neither of those being bad would explain all 4 poles of the solenoid being hot. If they're all hot, it should be turning over the engine but it's not. Which leads me to believe the solenoid is bad but I don't want to start throwing parts at it, that gets expensive quick and it's probably something simple.

Those starter relays suck, that one looks toast. What happens is they get water in them, and the relay inside clicks, but everything is rusty and they won’t make contact. You should be able to find an aftermarket one for less than $30. That Yamaha snosled I posted a picture of here a few months back had that exact same problem.

Have you taken a hammer to this solenoid yet while trying to crank it? Sounds like you have everyone figured out. BFH!

I tapped on it with my pliers, didn’t get too rowdy with it since it’s old and brittle. I just ordered a new one and some other parts I need

Ok. I’d say if it’s that bad then get one in there! I’ll back your diagnosis

Found one for $6.99, I replaced the one on our other four wheeler but it’s 3 years newer and a little different. This one I’m working on is a 1995 and has some odd stuff on it comparing it to the other one. I ordered a new solenoid, carb, front master cylinder, air and oil filter and some Yamaha oil. Hopefully I’m done buying parts and will have less than $1,200 in it :D

The older yamahas did use some weird designs. That’s not a bad price for a running 4x4 these days.
On the tires half showing up, I bought some tires for my jeep and 3 showed up the 4th didn’t. I got ahold of the seller who said they shipped with 4 tracking numbers but he only provided one. The missing one kept getting delayed so I called a buddy who works at fed ex. The shipping manager forgot to put it on a truck so it went from mass, to Maine, back to mass, then to my house. So maybe your other 2 tires are on a tour of NC.

That’s what I’m thinking and these two came FedEx, it’s a wonder these two showed up.

We had one of those chucks on an old Tida manual lathe, I loved that thing! I ran it for several years before going to the mill.

My winch was delivered UPS, now trying to get a pick up scheduled through FedEx.
I think the replacement winch might be delivered today:confused:

I don't think you can buy those chucks any longer. I couldn't even find the rubber/steel collett anywhere.
