Windshield Wipers?

Not sure where to put this, but have a feeling the general forum will just be people telling me what they just bought.

Serious question: are there any windshield wiper blades better than factory? What's a decent one? I've used many brands and usually only get a year or two. Stock wipers on my new vehicles seem to last 5, but when I replace them it's never the same.

 

Subbed to see what people say. I use the continuous press wipers from a couple brands. Had good luck with Bosch lately.

I've used Bosch in the past. I swear they make deals with manufacturers to sell longer lasting blades. Consumer reports says you don't have to spend a lot, but then won't give recommendations and states they no longer rate them. So they rate them, but don't.

 

You can also buy replacement rubber on Amazon. Don’t have to place the entire blade housing. That’s been hit or miss for me.

I thought of the same question when needed to replace my wiper blades the first time... For me, I pretty much just went with whatever list of blades that were the most highly rated with a minimum of 10,000 ratings, and took a random potshot to "add to cart".

 

If you can get 5 years from factory wiper blades go for it.

I change my drivers side every 3 months I do the passenger side when the rubber breaks as needed

 

I replace my wipers every year in the fall just before the winter season starts. I buy major brands like Bosch or RainX or others that I generally find on sale. . Just found Rain X brand yesterday cheap at Costco so I bought 2 sets. I’m good for replacement for 2 years now. I don’t see the sense in keeping wipers for years. It certainly doesn’t break the bank to replace them yearly. Wiper manufacturers and the auto industry recommends you change blades every 6 months to one year. If you ever have to drive along ways in stormy conditions you’ll be happy that you replace your wipers at least yearly. It’s a safety thing.

 

These are very good. Agree with others on changing them out every +/- one year, depending on environment.

I've got a Corolla as well as two Tacos, and have been going thru wiper blades far more often than I once did. If they last a full year it's unusual. And buying them locally has become expensive for blades that don't last. Napa and O'Reilly's sell cheap Anco blades for almost twenty bucks a side.

So I was looking to buy something on Rock auto and checked out the wipers. The cheap Ancos were less than three bucks, and the Bosch were less than five.

So I bought blades that will fit on both the Tacos and the Corolla, even if they aren't the recommended sizes. Three sets, two sets already replaced and the third stored until they are needed. Even with shipping they were much cheaper than the local shops. I like to buy local, but I don't like it when they rape you.

 

That's the thing, even buying from the dealer you get an inferior product. It's like they make ones for new vehicles that will last 3-5 years and then after that they build them to wear out quick. I would gladly pay more for wipers that lasted. My 2016 Tacoma's just wore out. Looks like I will just be replacing them yearly now.

After trying Bosch Icons back in 2015 I refuse to buy anything else. They are the only ones that last me 4+ years. I’ve had them on 3 vehicles so far.

 

Bosch is the way to go, however I'm not happy with the ones I have now. They jump and make noise towards the top of the up swing, however they are clearing water without a problem. They are too new to be doing this already. Anyways, I still stand by Bosch.

 

I like Rain-X Quantum. It applies Rain-X and has a spoiler design to stay on your windshield in the wind. Plus, they're silicone so they'll last longer than rubber.

 

Swap mine out each spring; when Costco has them on sale.
