You must have been a trucker in a previous life. That's a twin shifter you will find in older semi trucks. Not sure how they work but I believe one shifter is for lower gears and the other one is for the highway gears. I started a thread a few months back about "Stupid Tall Shifters" ( I don't know how to post links from previous threads sorry). They are so bad ass and If I could find one for a Tacoma I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

What I also find hilarious is people go on and on about [Tacoma] manuals, then almost immediately talk about doing an ADM or putting in 2LO cause the clutch isn’t good or gears are too tall. Or another favourite, a short shifter LMFAO Crying about it sucking, then patting themselves on the back for driving a manual. Comical. And why I normally stay clear from these kinda threads.
But that dude talking about traffic got me interested, only to let me down. So I decided to troll a bit.. and it worked LOL

Because I've driven a stick my whole life and, not kidding, I don't know how to drive an automatic properly. Accelerating and having the gears automatically shift when I don't expect them to always leads to jerky driving. In slick conditions like snow and rain, I use gears in my manual to downshift and control my speed w/out braking. Couldn't ever do it right with an auto and it just feels weird.

M/T's are also much more fun to drive.

This is what I did to mine to kinda give it that feel. I also hated the stock shift knob and boot brought all the way to the knob with a chrome ring.

Dude that is so freaking cool. If I could get that look with about 12 more inches of height, I would be in stick-shift heaven.......

Im kind of a high strung dude, and prefer to steer, drink coffee, change the song all at the same time.

ive never owned an automatic and im not great at driving them (upshift, downshift, upshift, downshift)

you can stab the clutch to help bring back a loss of traction

Lastly, you can smoke an auto in a drag race baybeee!!!

As much as I agree with you on the Manuel transmission, today's modern automatics are now faster than our dying breed of jamming gears. I have messed with my nephews here in town when I pull up beside them at a red light. Light turns green and I beat em off the line every single time but by the time I hit 2nd gear they are flying by me. But it's still driving a Manuel that is theraputic for me.

I drive and prefer manual over auto, CVT, and electric because it allows me to be in full control of the vehicle driving experience. If I don't stay focused on what gear I am in, the transmission won't do me any favors.

Some folks use vehicles just for the sake of transportation, and see having to pay attention to rowing gears as a hassle just to get to where they are going. Driving in stop and go traffic is a very common excuse.

When a person like myself say that driving a manual is fun, isn't talking about thrill. You can get a thrill with any trans or electric with enough HP/torque. However, a slow, underpowered AT or electric vehicle won't provide fun or thrill.

However, you can have an absolute blast of fun driving a slow underpowered manual trans crap car all day long. I can't explain why, but it's real.

Another way I look at the MT to AT preference is using camp food as an example. With the MT mentality, you find it "fun" to build a fire, tend it down to get coals and cook a great meal on it. With the AT mentality, you are just looking to get a meal in, and the quickest most convenient way possible. This could be just tearing open a prepackaged sandwich that was picked up from the gas station on the way to camp, or going all out and lighting the LP stove and heating water to pour into the Mountain House bag. At the end of the day, a meal was had by both, but fun was had during the process by at least one of the two.

Tell me, if you had access to the tools, materials, work space, time and desire to learn...would you rather design and build your own stuff, or would you still prefer to just throw a credit card at it and be on your way?

I wish my truck had a two speed rear differential. It would be a bunch of gears to choose from but I could have a low range for off-road and a high range for highway stuff.
Great job getting people’s blood pressure up. Lol

Agreed. I didn’t go through all 24 though. I saw a page of peoples automotive history, multiple posts of how it’s a ‘lost art’, and then some guy mentioned his record collection and I burst out in laughter cause I just pictured multiple hipsters one upping each other.

Lol I try not to get too tore up about stuff that doesn’t even matter. I enjoy my manual and I hope others enjoy their auto. I’m just glad toyota gives me options. Perhaps when I get a bit older I will be in the auto again but for now I can work the clutch and row my own. My dad had health issues and couldn’t drive a MT. I know my day is coming.

I haven't seen a MT lovefest here in months. There used to be one a week. Or maybe there still is and I just don't look much anymore. They're definitely less entertaining without Stungun.

ATs are cool but I'm going all in and getting a manual start up crank installed in my Tundra. Electric starters are for girly men.
