He's playing strong on the puck this year. He's currently a +11. Of course the ice gets smaller in the playoffs.

 

I am not as down on Malkin the last few weeks, since they put Kapanen on his line. He's generating points, currently with 19 points. On the other hand, he does have 2 giveaways in this game.

 

Way too many penalties by the Pens. Very undisciplined as a team.

 

0 shots in third and an empty net goal.

Jarry looked good and saved the game.

 

The Rangers gave the Pens fits in the last few minutes. Three great saves by Jarry and Crosby hits the empty net from the red line. That's a hard earned victory.

 

Welp, at least we took it to shootout and got a point out of it.

 

Andersen looks ice cold after his injury. I love the guy when he's good but these .800 games he throws when he's off are getting old. I'd like to see more of Campbell to see if he can start regularly once he's healthy.

 

Just happy LA got to ot in that one. We should see 32 in net for round 2.

 

1 nice thing is if he plays with Geno, he won't be the entry guy anyways. So who knows. So far I like how he has fit in. Sometimes guys excel in different situations.

 

I don't think he had much of a chance on any of those 4 goals. 2 deflections right in front of him (one on the PP, 1 off Matthew's foot which for some reason was at waist height) a sick pass from behind the net to Connor left alone at the top of the crease, and a great effort by Appleton. Having said that Helle made about 5 saves he had no business making.

 

Great goalies make saves they shouldn't make. If Andersen isn't making those saves, then someone else needs a shot. Both Campbell and Hutch have played better than Andersen when given the chance. There's also another dimension to my comment. Andersen is going to want to get paid at the end of this season. Some leaks say he's looking for 8 million a year. If that's the case the Leafs have to let him walk anyway. So it makes sense to see if Campbell can be a starter and extend him at 2-3 million.

Yeah, that shot heat map made me mad after the game. TO had something like 20 chances from inside the slot and over 10 within 10 feet of the net. To only score 3 is a phenomenal outing even for a Vezina quality goalie.

 

Don't like Kane, but I can't see the correlation.

The good news is it sounds like NBCSN won't be carrying the NHL for much longer. ESPN is supposedly in final negotiations to carry the NHL after NBCSN.
