So I love the weight of the Canopy Camper, but hoping to seal a Tacoma bed is what makes me love my Khaya...

I guess everything in life is a compromise but it’s tough to consider a truck bed a living space with all the water and dust intrusion.

Nice thing with the Khaya is it’s a complexly sealed unit. Just heavy AF.

 

Curious if you have run across a scale with your Khaya and what a real world weight is on it

 

do they retain factory backup camera and how?

 

TBH I haven’t put it in a scale. My best guess loaded out for camping and full of water is around 1100lbs... I think that’s pretty accurate. I’ll probably pull it off this summer and do some work to the truck. Maybe I can run it in a scale and give a real world weight. It’s not light, i run +660 OME leafs and bags, Covid prevented my gears in 2020 but I’d like to get 5.29’s sooner than later.

I’m running this on my truck. 100% plug and play works as good (or better) than the factory camera. No reason not to if you remove your tailgate...

I am with you on that. If I had the facility for it, I would have love to do the assembly/install myself. They sound much like the shop here in CO. Nice guys, but they don't really want to do much that's "custom or special" in my experience thus far. For what your paying, I think it could be a little better level of service. Everyone's needs are a little different. That's okay though. I had waited a year+ and would still be waiting for my Drifter, so at least I have a camper for this season.

How did you guys end up wiring the LED lights inside? Straight to battery? Bed lights in the 2020s?

 

I am wiring mine into my second battery through a safety hub/switch panel that will be located in the camper, so they will all be switchable on/off, etc. Except for the rear brake light which will just be wired into the taillight wiring.

 

Is anyone having condensation issues? I’ve been sleeping in the gen 111 tent the last two nights and wake up and all inside tent parts are wet.
After off-roading and sleeping in the tent with the low profile bars it now touches my shark fin. It is making the worst squeaking noise all the time. Hopefully I can squeeze an arm under there and saw the fin off.

Got the bajas mounted on the rear, wired up the inside lights too. Easy

 

I used butyl tape. Works great!

 

I’ve not had condensation issues at all. Slept in mine (canopy camper) all kinds of weather and temps from around 90 down to upper 20’s. Even in the coldest of temps I leave all the windows unzipped at the top to allow some ventilation and have stayed plenty warm and no condensation.

So without getting all nerdy on you the very basics of condensation are it forms when warm moist air contacts a cold surface....


Think about an ice cold beer in a mug on a warm day, water droplets galore!

Now with your RTT on a chilly morning, that big metal box, and even the fabric are cold on the outside and inside your warmth and the humidity from your breath are the exact opposite. Result condensation.

This can be mitigated somewhat but moving the air around and with an anti condensation mat under your mattress, basically a layer between your warm body and the cold tent bottom.

Humidity in your area can also play a large role in this. I’ve camped down near water and had more problems than in higher and dryer places.

RTT’s seem to have this problem worse than the campers because they are exposed directly to the elements on the underside where as the canopy camper and my Khaya can stay warmer in the truck bed below.

I hope this helps a little. In the past I’ve kept micro fiber towels to wipe things down in the morning and they dry by evening.
