SoundSkins Pro Kit

Hey all. Looking to get some of the rattles/road noise/heat out of the truck and came across this kit. Seems a little pricey but the fact it's precut for quick easy install kinda has me leaning towards picking it up. Anyone have any experience with this company/material?

36sq/ft of Noico 80mil black is $67
36sq/ft of Noico 150mil closed cell foam is $50

That gets you almost 60% more coverage, for less than half the price. Enough to cover the back wall and more of the door than that kit will cover, which will result in better performance.

This stuff cuts pretty easy with a box cutter so you’re paying a LOT of money for someone to do that for you

 

Yeah exactly. I was curious if the material even warranted that much of a price jump. How much time would you imagine I'd save buying a roll and DYI ?

 

It’s very easy to do and I’ve had no problems in over a year now of my noico 80mil. I actually find it somewhat satisfying to put on and rolling but taking it off SUCKS and better wear gloves

 

I would allot 1 hour per door, and 1.5 hours for the back wall, and a few beers. Gotta stay hydrated right?
This includes talking panels off and putting them back on. Some will do it faster. Some slower. If you’re out in freezing temps and no garage, I might wait until it warms up a bit. Sticky stuff doesn’t like to stick to cold metal.

 

I have both the Noico 80 AND the soundskins ON TOP. Let me tell you, it's not as easy as the videos portray, and you will still need to cut some things here and there, and pealing the backing sucked ass. Make sure you have a helper, but doing it alone isn't TOO bad....

Make sure you do the INNER skin of the door, not just right under the door panel.





Why did I double up? I was bored. The Noico is good, but I wanted the added foam that came with the soundskins.

 

But if you really want to quiet the cab down, get your hands on some open cell foam (like the kind they put in Pelican Boxes) and cover the rear vents with the foam. No air pressure issues when closing the doors, and it knocked cab noise down tremendously......

Spent last weekend tackling that job. I already can tell a noticeable difference in the amount of road noise that has been blocked out, as well as the speakers now seem way more crisp.

I also went with the Sound Skins precut panels and will be installing those with the speaker rings this weekend once weather clears up. Oddly enough the speaker rings didn't ship with the foam squares like photos show, but I'll just pick up some off Amazon to place behind speakers and rear cubby panels.

How are you liking the difference with the Sound Skins installed?

 

It dampened the sound quite a bit on the doors. I have Noico on the back walls, but the vents man. Unless you mitigate the road noise from the vents, you're still going to here noise.

 

This is what my back wall looked like after I was finished. Did you do yours similar?

To be fair I did do this part first since I knew whatever material I had left over would go into doors. They Dynamat kit actually covered the back wall and all 4 inner door skins minus the support bars/rails. I actually had enough to cover large chunks of the inner cubby panels and front door cards after all was done.

 

I finished it haha. I wanted to share some honest feedback so whoever else wants to tackle this install some notes might help. As @CoastieRon stated it's very helpful to have an extra set of hands to get the panel lined up. My panels specifically didn't line up as cleanly as I would have liked, but I did make them work. My main issue with the product was the backing paper was very unforgiving to remove off the panel and took a lot of time to get all the tiny parts off so the adhesive would stick.

Overall I'm pleased with the performance of the panels as the road noise has significantly dropped. These with the addition of Dynamat on the inner door skins has made for a much more comfortable interior and driving experience. I would give them a 8/10 just based on the issues of panels needing "massaged" into place and the backing paper being stubborn.

 

Biggest pain in the ass. Stupid little stuck pieces.....

 

Wondering if anyone has tried to use this kit in a 2015 yet?

 

I used the black mat and foamed the hallow areas across the back panel
No issues no rattles!

 

I need to try that foam on my truck, I was afraid of not air circulating
