Well, I test drove an automatic Taco because a manual on the lot was (is) basically impossible to find.

The snail pace reputation of the automatic equipped Taco is well deserved. I was done with it in a couple minutes because it was so slow and dim witted.

I finally took delivery of my Pro manual. Had the accumulator removed, and drove it like an S2000 with traction off, 13.9MPG!

It's got decent amount of power if you keep it above 3500, which in a manual is no big deal. Even did a 0 to 60 run, obviously it is still the slowest vehicle in my fleet, but it reminded me of my E30 way back in the day. Fun to rev, quick enough, and if you want a little more speed just clutch in, rev match, and downshift.

The way Toyota programs the automatic Taco is just so terrible and it felt like I was driving a 1 liter gutless wonder.

    Taco AT involved.
You'll be inhaling my exost if I hit 3500. At 3500 on somewhat level road, I'm over 100 mph. You don't know what you talking about.

You don’t seem to know how driving works. If my manual is at 3500 in 6th gear I’m also around 100. But he was saying if you keep the RPMs above 3500 in the lower gears, the engine is pretty spritely and fun to whip around. We aren’t using 6th gear though.

What gear do you think AT is at 3500?

It can be in any gear. Depends how hard you're pressing the gas pedal

I expect we'll be drug into a misguided convo about missfires or port injection vs direct injection at some point.

Tony, your "mute" list must be working overtime lol..

Manuals are pain in the Arrse in stop and go traffic, otherwise I would get one.

I considered getting a manual Taco, but then remembered I drive in Atlanta traffic everyday.

my first 3 tacomas were Manual '951/2, '96, '08. In 2018 I bought a brand new Double Cab Long Bed Sr5 Auto. It was by far the absolute worst truck I've ever owned. The transmission hunted gears constantly, and I also had the awful rear end whine that after 3 years of fighting with Toyota I gave up on. Last Saturday I bought a '21 Voodoo Blue TRD OR Quad Cab with a proper manual transmission, and I couldn't be happier, even in traffic. its so much more connected feeling vs. the auto which just felt spongey, almost like turbo lag when you pressed the accelerator

Is this coming from years of personal experience or herd induced speculation?

Years of experience in LA traffic. Would never want to drive a manual in stop and go for hours. 99 percent of people don't either only the ones in this thread

So you have driven a manual in these conditions, or just never want to?
As I said previously, driving in stop and go traffic is a standard excuse. I realize it makes it harder to keep up on FaceChatInstaTwit while driving a manual in stop and go traffic. That's the point!

One of my vehicles is a manual and my Tacoma is not. yes, I have driven my car in traffic and I do not enjoy that aspect of constantly clutching in and out for hours. I can deal with 30min but not 2hours of LA traffic with it

I drove in LA traffic from 90’s to 2016, all manual, some even unassisted.

    101, 110, 405, 210, 134, 10, and 5.

Never once did I wish I could have gotten in a vehicle and rode my brake pedal all the way home.

You're in the 1 percent then as 99 percent don't feel that way. I would even venture to say that you're in the 1 percent of MT drivers who feel that way about traffic.
