So I recently updated my truck to the 04B33 TSB and yesterday I flashed my OV tune stock regular thx. I’m happy. Nothing drastic that I can tell but definitely smoother. Anyways, Prior to any of that I bought a 3”mbrp cat and airaid CAI. Ran them both together and separate. I felt like the truck was actually way more sluggish on the low end. I loved the sound and wasn’t expecting any performance boosts but I am wondering if anyone else runs the mbrp. I’m pretty sure my 2019 taco is 2.5 inch down pipe all the way to the tip which is 2.75 inches. Because of the larger car piping did it just affect my scavenging and back pressure? I’m back to stock again with the tune but I really liked the sound

For me, doing the pre-axle dump added just the right amount of sound. It wish it was a mandrel bent turn down tip, but I can't argue with free.

No free is good and I know I could cut the muffler out and change that but I’m under full warranty. Do you think the 3” inch cat screwed my scavenging and back pressure

It could have. There was a pricey engineered y-pipe set up (Dirty Deeds, I think) to maximize output through a balanced flow and they stuck with 2.5in.

From what has been said, there is room for improvement with specific intake mods and at the headers.

I’m sure that’s why Borla and TRD are both 2.5 but they are so expensive. Especially since I just dumped $700 for the VF and tunepack. But I think that was a good decision. Testing the cat now that I have the tune should be ok right?

Did you stick with the stock CAI?

Yeah. The tune adapts to what the sensors are reading.

The only comment that I recall OVT making was that some CAIs that move the MAF closer to the TB can mess up the airflow through the sensor and goof up the tune.

For specific tuning to your intake and exhaust, you could use a dyno shop that is familiar with the software. The gains would be small though.

I think I should let the tune settle in for now. It’s only been like 40 miles.

I got the HPS intake tube for a bit more sound and to delete the resonator for better engine access. I also installed the TRD Intake Airflow Accelerator. It is kinda of a TRD Intake for less than half the cost.

Good question. I did delete that a long time ago. Although, I didn't feel any change. Supposedly it makes a noticeable difference on the 2.7l, but their intake setup is pretty different.

I was hopeful, but that's the fun of cheap / free mods.

    You're welcome!
