Best XM Radio Price?

When we got our 2011 V6 DC TRD Off Road (on 11/9/10) it came with a 90 day XM radio package.
The salesman said his Camry also came with it and after the 90 days he was able to buy it for $7.00 a month.
I just got a letter from XM wanting $12.95 a month.
I don't think it's worth it, however I would consider it for $7.00.
Has anyone bought it and what price did you get?
Can you negotiate the price?

 

Will they give you a discount if you pay for a year up front? That may be why he was able to get the better price...

I bought a 2010 prerunner used and want to know how to tell if I have the XM reciever. I have the antenna up top, but want to know if there is anything I need to do other than order XM. (any hardware to buy)

 

I cancelled one of my two subscriptions back in March, and at that time, if you called the customer service number and "jerked their chain" a bit, they would offer a 1 year subscription for $70.

There's probably a similar deal still in place, you just need to call and ask for it, they just don't give away discounts.

First of all, I would like to see the salesman's bill from Sirius. I would say that he is full of Bean Soup. He is trained to lie. Sirius has deals sometime, so you can get a better package if you commit to a longer contract or pay in full. I have 14 per month so 12.95 is good. They previously had a lifetime contract for 500. My friend has that and I should have bought it at the time. So you can get some deals but this is not Bangkok you can't pull out your solar calculator and offer a lower price. You might be able to get a lower price for the first year. Scott is correct, they usually offer you something on the phone if you call. Good luck. I was going to cancel if Howard Stern left but I am staying with it now.

 

FredFarmer, you have the antenna and prewiring only. You will need two units in order to get Sirius. One is a Tuner, the other is a Sirius Toyota converter. Your other option is to get a Starmate or similar and I recommend the USA SPEC PA-15 Toy or PA-20 TOY. I have the PA-15 TOY, it is plug and play to your existing radio and you can run your Starmate and also run your Ipod and they both are controlled by your stereo and/or steering controls. This product is great.

The sirius / xm folks will only take $12 plus a month if you let them. If you really don't think it's worth that much just tell em so at reup time. After first paid year on a CRV I decided to drop....they came down to $84/year....I asked about the $30 some odd dollars per year that was taxed in addition to the "$12.95" a month last year...they covered that for this year too. Rep said I'd have to check back next year to see what was available.

 

I bought my '10 Tacoma last July and let the subscription expire after 90 days. They called me and offered me a deal for $7.00 a month for a year, I said no thanks and then they offered me a deal for $3.95 a month for 5 months. So I bit and paid my 20 bucks for the 5 months. I figure I'll just let it expire again and see what kind of deal they offer me. I don't really need it since I have short commutes, but if they're practically giving it to me, I'll take it.

 

After the 3 month trial I called and negotiated a full year for $77 plus the starving music artist fee. I'll do it again in April and if they say no then I'll just cancel. It's barely worth even the negotiated cost. I only listen to about 5 channels anyway.

 

I have been a multi-radio subscriber to XM for something like 5 or 6 years now. Currently enjoying the free trial in the new Tacoma, but when it runs out, I will be replacing my XM Skydock with the new radio ID on my account.

I have never really heard of getting a discount unless you call in to cancel your service, they usually do everything they can go keep you around.

The girlfriend's free 90 day subscription ran out on her Chevy Equinox last year. They kept bugging her about renewing. She tossed out how about tossing in another vehicle for the same price. So we got 2 year subscription for her equinox and my old grand am for 170. So, when I got the new head unit installed in the tacoma, I just got it transferred over. So when it runs out next year, we will do some more negotiating.

 

Make sure to call them before it expires or else they will renew at 12.95 per month.

 

I find it very interesting that guys who don't think twice about dropping hundreds of dollars on mods for your truck or $2-$3 for Monster energy drinks and Starbucks coffee are bitching about $13 / month for XM radio. This is less than $.50 a day! For me, I'd pay twice that much to not have to hear 5-8 commercials followed by 2 songs and then more commercials on FM radio. Plus no censoring / beeping out words in songs, coast-to-coast coverage when I travel, etc. I've had Satellite radio since the beginning and I would never go back to AM/FM.

Be careful buying the "lifetime subscription".

During the merger of XM and Sirius, the terms of the lifetime subscription were changed, and restrictions were added.

The last I looked into the lifetime subscrition, you could only transfer your subscription to a new receiver 3 times, then the "lifetime" part of the subscription was over. As long as you keep the same receiver for a long time, you're good to go though......

Also, do the math to see if the lifetime subscription price is a good value for you. The last time I checked, it would have taken me 36 months to "break even" on the lifetime cost (based on a 1 year subscription cost). That's not too bad IMO if you plan on keeping it for longer than 3 years, and can foot the bill up front.....
