Yes sir, the ones with the 4.0L though. I don’t think there were v8 manuals.

    That would be fine.

I still regret not getting a 1st Gen Taco or T100.

It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out in the end. Seems like a major change is in the wind.

I'm still not sure I understand what "shared platform" means. Does it mean next gen tacos are gonna get even Bigger, close to tundra size? The motors gonna be shared? The suspension? What exactly does a "shared problem" mean? Because if they become too similar what's the point of even buying one or the other?

The current Frontier uses the Titan platform and is smaller, they can uses shorter crossmembers so it's not as wide.

A platform is the general architecture of the vehicle. The Titan and Frontier have shared a platform since 2011.

Im still a bit confused how they gonna put the Taco and Tundra on the same platform and still keep the Taco a midsize. I’m sure it’s a lot easier to shrink the length of the frame, but to narrow it?

Again, the Frontier and Titan are on the same platform since 2011.

The deal is about sharing interface points and hardware that is typically not seen or touched by most vehicle owners.

Cab mounts, engine mounts, driveline components, and such would have all the same interfaces which reduces cost in production.

Another example is that the VW Rabbit and Audi A6 have shared the same platform for over 15yrs. I think there are 20+ different models using that platform.

I thought I read the Hilux was going to be included in the TNGA-F platform now too? Or am I just getting ahead of myself with wishful thinking?

Either way, I'm guessing the shared platform is probably a net good thing for the Taco. Might finally go back to a boxed frame (not that the channel frame is a bad thing from a ductility standpoint) and get a bump in payload capacity.

Oh man. I cannot remember about the HiLux.

I know the Taco, Tundra, Sequoia, T4R, and LC for sure.

I'm convinced that Toyota keeps the payload falsely low on the Tacoma to stay below the tax break threashold and push more people into Tundras.

That’s just using interchangeable parts. Like Toyota who has used the exact same cruise control stalk on everything from corollas to ISes.

A rabbit and an A6 are two drastically different sized frames. The A6 is on a C8/4K frame while the Rabbit/Golf uses an MQB.

When I had my Audi, I used VW parts all the time simply because they are 800x cheaper when out on VWs. For instance: a gallon of G12 coolant in an Audi was $60. In a VW, it was $20. Exact same coolant. Exact same jug.

The Tundra is significantly wider than a Tacoma. The frame (even if they share frame rails) the floor pan, and structure will have to be significantly different. At least enough to where they will have to double the research for crash testing, etc.
