Getting ready to make the jump from my 33s to the 34s. my 255/85's have served me well, and I've loved them dearly. But it's time to move up.

Need some help on choosing the correct offset here.

Will be moving from the stock OR wheels up to a 17x8.5, and am having troubles deciding between a 0, -10, -12, -18 offset. Currently on ~3" lift via FOX, and Supreme UCA's. I am prepared to CMC, and I don't know of these inner fenders which everyone speaks of. Pinch weld was flattened many moons ago (Don't have a hammer? put 33's on your stock suspension and jump the truck a few times, pinch weld = flat).

My biggest concern is range of motion. We wheel a few times per month on average, everything from fire-roads, to trails my truck probably doesn't actually belong on. I have never run into a rubbing issue with the 255/85s even with the sway bar removed, and at what I consider to be substantially stuffed.

So far it looks like the 0/-10/-12 range is the safe bet. Would I like the truck to look cool, sure, some poke is nice, but function over form.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Nice build - I went with Black Rhino's myself (17x9.5 -18). Tried to go with a brand wheel a little different from most.

Probably staying closer to "0" would be a safer bet for you, if you want best possible range of motion with least amount of rubbing.

I appreciate the info. Great looking truck. Black rhino was actually a company I was looking into as well, among a few others. Some of the rrw look great, same goes for the scs, but the wait involved, is kinda ridiculous. I don't need to be a cool kid, lol. Also considering the Motegi :crapstorm: trailite or mt6 (I don't know if they knocked rrw or vice-versa on the mt6)

Rhino's considered are the Baker (0), or Bantam (-10) but I have to say, while they look cool, I'm not a huge fan of faux-locks. I'd rather be the hardcore kid and go with real beadlocks, which I don't have much interest in maintaining. Did it once with a jeep, don't really want to do it again.

Also, Method 703s. But tough availability at the moment so it seems.

Anyone have some more pics with the 285/75 on 0-offset?

I wish I could have gone with less offset. I have to clear JBA UCAs. Other UCAs this isn’t an issue due to design. So I’m at -12, 8.5 wide. I thinks that is 4.27” off backspacing. I do rub a little currently on my chopped cab mounts and am working on taking them back a bit more and finding a good alignment shop to get my caster pushed out even more.

I’m curious how your setup will work out for ya. So keep us posted. I’m like you in my use of the truck. It gets used. I’ve got a trip planned here for around Moab at the end of the month and if don’t get these few kinks worked out I will be putting my 255/85s back on for that trip.

Will do. Now I just need to find a wheel that fits the bill, I can stand the look of, and don't have to sell one of my limbs for.

Honestly going to miss the skinnies. Hah. They've done me real solid.

    Really considering the motegi options.

Man, I’m really on the fence about this. I’m already running 285/75/16 on my stock wheels, and have no running anywhere, so I feel like I could get away with the 285/75/17 with minimal effort. I’m going ahead and getting a cmc later this month just in case.

my only hang up is, I really like the way my stock wheels look, and I haven’t the replacement in a 17” yet. Also need to research the offsets some. I have no rub now, with +13 (I think) offset. It seems like all the aftermarket have negative offsets, so I’m not exactly sure how that’s going to change the rub/clearance situation

Toyo Open Country M/Ts on 17" Icon Rebounds. With these specific wheels I had to add a 1" spacer to prevent UCA rubbing.

    Looking good.
Those are 17x8.5 0 offset, right? What upper control arms are you running?

My setup is probably different then yours. I also off-road and commonly stuff my wheels. I have 17x8.5 -12 offset, toyo at3 285/75R17, 2-2.5” of lift in the front and JBA upper control arms. I don’t rub until I have the wheels turned and then I get super close to the cab mount chop and rub on the firewall. I am sitting at 3.9 degrees of caster and will be hopefully pushing that to more 4.5-5 degrees of caster to help get that tire off the firewall. Zero offset would be more ideal and I think cause less rubbing but won’t work for me with out rubbing on the JBA upper control arms. Although I think I would rather rub the control arm than the firewall or inner fender. So depending on your set up plan on some rubbing if you off-road.

My brother and I just scooped some Fifteen 52s for our company trucks. They are low on the flashy side. We put them on next week so we'll see how they ride Westlakes on 52s.jpg

Interesting, built right looks like a similar design, as far as major dimensions go, to the other uniball arms like TC, camburg, and the Supreme ones that I have. I wonder if I could run into the same issue with zero offset

I think that will have to be measured with the backspacing as well to figure it out if you would have the same issue. Are you planning to go with the same backspace as the Icon Rebound? It really wasn't a lot of rubbing on the UCA. Probably the size of a dime or so.

Yes backspacing is key on UCA clearance. In retro I would rather slightly rub on a nice round control arm then on the inner fender

Absolutely, I don't have much rubbing at all on the inner fender. I only have some rubbing at full lock in reverse and hit the tires a little when off road and wheels are turned.

I guess it would depend on the thickness of the rim material, but rough number wise, Backspacing would end up the same. You mentioned the icons are 8.5 wide, with zero offset. That makes roughly 4.25in backspace on paper, plus the thickness of the rim lip. So technically any 8.5 in wheel with a 0 offset should be ~4.5" backspace.

Interestingly enough, the wheels I've been looking at, as well as your icons, list 4.75" of backspace.

Ideally I'd have no rub on the UCA. Small or not. If that's the case the - 12 options aren't out of the question, so long as I don't start jamming the tire into the edge of the fender when I stuff, or attempt to, stuff a tire.
