Buncha light-weights; when deployed my schedule is seven hours on, five off, then five on followed by seven off, seven days a week. Longest stretch was 73 days. Typical is 28-35.

Nice! Carbide hole saws are your friend if you end up having to do a bunch of them.

:rofl:I'll never forget when I learned what that word was....my cousin bought a cheap stereo amplifier and that's kind of what the name was on it. It burned up in a short time and he was saying that name in a odd way... :rofl:anyhow you don't hear it often but it always makes me chuckle

Generally speaking, if you buy it brand new from a reputable company manufactured to specific tolerances then you should be able to trust the condition of the gears and inner workings. With that said, if you bought second hand, you may want to tear it down and clean out the gunk and replace with some nice quality new grease. Be mindful of mixing greases as certain kinds of greases will ball up on you and break down faster.

If you're submerging your winch frequently in water, I would recommend doing a seasonal teardown and regrease. If you use the winch frequently under high loads, like 3-5 times per month (or more), I would recommend a seasonal regrease. Lastly, if you use your winch infrequently, then I would recommend replacing the grease every 5 years or so as certain types of greases have a shelf life. It looks like you have the steel cable, so I would recommend checking the steel cable prior to each jaunt out into the wilderness for any split wires. Run the cable out all the way (leaving just one full spool of wrapped cable on the spool) then using a rag wrapped around the cable, run the rag up and down the full length of the cable checking for split wires that catch on the rag. Please pull on the rag and not wrap your hand around the cable holding the rag unless you like getting metal splinters in your hand. Ask me how I know. If the cable is kinked a little, you should be fine but if the cable has a severe kink, it could affect the weight ratio that you can safely pull. Realistically, you should be cleaning your steel cable when you finish your trip and this would be the best time to check the condition of your cable. Storing a dirty winch cable long term may potentially introduce abrasives into the wrapped wire bundle and reduce the life of your steel cable. You should be able to find what type of grease is recommended for your winch in your manual or online. It is best to reuse the same type of grease to prolong the life of your winch. Also, while your winch is opened up this allows you to check the condition of your planetary gears. I hope this helps a little.

Went and picked that four wheeler up last week, left the small trailer hooked up so I can go pick up that bent loader from my buddy this Saturday.

Audible. My neighbor came in and ask me to move his tractor from one farm he leases to a new one he picked up so he can bushhog it, he ask “can you move it Saturday morning and then move it back Sunday evening?” Sure I said. Trailer switch :D

This guy is super nice, he lives in the development across from us and we always talk about deer hunting. He’s looking for a truck and trailer so he can do this himself. He recently got into the cattle business and is leasing places to put them. The farms are like 12 miles apart but it’s a busy highway and he don’t want to drive the tractor that far. I get it.

Thanks for the winch care tips @JustAddMud
I've done a fair amount of rigging so am aware of the steel cable, it works the same I'm certain as steel cable/ wire rope rigging tackle. Yeah, I've gotten a hand poke owee even with leather gloves on.
I hope to not regret the cable but just figured it's more severe duty capable and easy enough to change later if I decided.
I may give Warn customer Service a call and see what they recommend for grease.
Thanks again. Oh, also purchased new...slightly beat up lol

Oh 44 mag all the way. Had one once, shot 7 rounds thru it then sold it for a $400 profit. Should have kept it cause it was super cool and an icon to boot. This one will stay with me for a while!

I have a good friend that's had one since the mid 80's maybe since they first came out.
I've always thought it would be nice to have but couldn't overcome the sticker shock.
    Nice man!
