I will not take the bait....I will not take the bait.

LOL just kidding Rob. It's a mad house in some of our parking lots and (not be a sexist) women seem to be the biggest offenders (sorry Sue) especially the younger professionals with their beemers and Mercedes SUV's. Always in a hurry.

    Take care folks.

I doubt if you can get a manual in a new Tacoma. I have 134K on my 09 with minimal problems. I do like the 6 ft bed.

When the time comes for a new vehicle I want to look hard at a 4Runner. They appear to be able to take a beating and are comfortable on the inside.

    Good Morning Coffee Crew.

Off to the docs early, annual thyroid blood screen, and get all those good things checked. This marks my 50th year of taking thyroid medication. It stopped working; finally, a doc realized "thyroid?" and sent me off for nuclear testing. In those days, you drank radioactive stuff, laid on a metal table for an hour with a Gieger counter, tripping off a few times a minute. Wild to remember that.

It also marks my 5th year after an unsuccessful lung lobectomy. NSCLC-Adenocarcinomia. They got most of the tumor, but complications so they couldn't get the whole lobe which was the plan. There are 100 forms of that cancer, and I have one that is like Kudzu. You cannot get rid of it, but you have a long time to deal with it.

Meanwhile, I still have maps of the TransAmerica Bicycle Route. So tempting to do that while I can. Take a small solar panel (charge a battery, keep up with my CPAP at night). Virginia to Oregon. 60 days, 70 miles a day, 4200 miles by bicycle.

Life is good. Enjoy every sunrise, and espresso is a great way to start the day!

Time to kill so catching up here. I started hanging out on the porch steps here almost 10 years ago. The OG founders of the thread, Ken, Carl, Tom, Jim (miss that Bad@ss Cool Old Dude), 6, and company welcomed me and I'm thankful for them. They are amongst my most respected and loyal TW friends.
Since my return to TW from my most recent hiatus, I find myself most in step with you fine folk on the porch. I believe this will be my full-time TW home. Turned 56yo this week, reckon that places me closer to 60 than 50. With your approval, I'd like to stay.
:woot: Hadn't seen the Nova for a while.
 Glad you got it Dave.
Thank you for the birthday wishes.
    :hattip: Respect :oldglory:

I've had a few joint ops TDY/deployments with Navy folks, mainly carrier based people; what I recollect is three main priorities:
    1) Getting the planes back on the deck.
    2) Coffee - good, strong, and black; in endless quantity
    3) Chow - Navy folk know good food

Trying to remember, was 2020 the last year for manual trans Tacomas?

I wanted to put Kristi in a T4R, but she prefers the Highlander. I'm really impressed with this 2019 Hybrid Highlander she bought around the same time I got Stitch. If I didn't feel a need/want for a truck bed, I'd be in a T4R.

2021 still offered manual Tacomas. Access Cab is easier to find base 6 speeds.

I wanted a DCLB, which meant automatic only. DCSB or ACLB has a shorter wheelbase, and Manual 6 speed is an option.

My Double Cab allows room for the dog (she always rides in the cab, never in a bed), and I wanted a 6' bed for sleeping and hauling my recumbent three-wheel bike (smart cap on order).

I used Autotrader to locate my DCLB, 700 miles away. Good thing I like road trips. Kudos to Phil Long in Trinidad, CO, a great trade-in price, and they paid off the note within a week. I've been getting 6% returns on retirement funds. Toyota had a 0% hence the loan on my 2019. Years back, when I bought my Chevy 2500HD, I traded a vehicle. The dealer didn't pay the note for two months (cash flow makes them money but meant I had two more months of payments and played dumb. It seems they sold the vehicle. Normally I like paying cash, but with these low-interest notes, it makes more sense to leave funds for retirement and make payments as I am still working).

    Good morning all,

Calm before the storm, predictions are all over the map and continue to change - I guess we will get what we get and that will be that.... We are prepped for a good dump so we won't get as much as they are predicting (Murphy's Law).

Building up my To-Do-List, will need to add gravel to the driveway so I have a bobcat reserved for mid May and a roll-off- dumpster so I can remove stumps from the fire mitigation over the last few years, grade the drive and clean up the property early - before the fire season. Also going to grade an area to build a fire wood storage shed with a roof so we can keep the splitter and some storage close but yet over 200' away from the house. Still in the design stages, contemplating buying a 42' container as part of the build so we can store the quad and it's implements and use part of it for a wood stove sauna - had one in Wisconsin and loved it. Yes still going to rebuild the two decks and maybe, just maybe, add the mud / laundry room - depends on the timing of a few business projects to pay for all of these projects.

Have a great Friday and as always stay safe

So I'm trying to get a pay pal account set up and they are telling me I have to have a credit card..
I'm trying to tell them I don't do credit cards only debit cards. I don't buy anything I can't pay cash for .
I sent a message with this picture of my cards.
They are telling me no credit card no pay pal. I can't tell you what I sent back in the last message but I can tell you I'm 100 percent sure I won't be getting a pay pal account..IMG_20210312_091216_8~2.jpg

Keep at least one credit card. I know the debt is the devil, but nothing links directly to my bank account. A credit card is a buffer, so on American Express, a fraudulent charge is easy to get removed. Gas pump card reader hacked (common) once again statement shows something funny.

I've had credit cards skimmed (fraud). Shut down the card, got another one (always travel with two).

My wife had some #$% "micro debit" on her credit card. Under $1, but was hit with over 1000 in the month that drained her checking account. Bounced check fees were $400; Bank reversed the micro debit but still left her with bounced fees. Crap!

Phone bills, electric bills, trash, pool service, etc., are all automatically paid by credit card. One debit card, use for groceries (indoor readers, much harder to hack a major grocery chain), and cashback. Any other purchases, credit card, and pay that sucker in full every month.

Oh, Atlanta Airport was the worse for getting skimmed! Only used American Express during travel as they would flag and go after fraud.

Always had our approval Rob. By the way, being a youger member on the porch did you lube the wheels on some of our walkers?:D.. Just kidding. Walkers aren't allowed on the porch until we expand it. Getting a bit tight with all the folks . Thats a good thing.

Talking about being TDY on a ship, flight op's were a priority and it was always amazing to watch the operations from take off. To landing. Worked on the flight deck for 3 months and it was an experience to be had.
As far as the coffee, strong and black was the order of the day. Sugar was non existent and when we were at sea we would run out of milk and only had powdered milk:puke:so black coffee it was and food wasn't too bad. Not like Mom's but edible.
    Be safe.

I had posted this before, but every time I think about it it makes me smile!!!
I never drank coffee, so when I had to make coffee for the first time on the 4-8 watch I figured how hard can that be. Well after watching the others do it I figured I had it down pact! I filled the coffee urn with water, and then FILLED THE COFFEE FILTER TO THE TOP, I think today they would call it 10X SHOCK!!!
Yea, it was pretty strong judging by the comments, but they still drank it! :D

On the subject of seamanship, my first time at sea on a troop transport (Gen JC Breckenridge), I was assigned scullery duty. Looking to staying hydrated and knowing I'd have little chance later, I downed 8 salt tablets just before breakfast. Lucky for me and all those around me, there was an open porthole in the scullery! I had no use for salt tablets the rest of that voyage!
