Map 1 is low 4 according to Mat.
Always make sure to copy axis and values when you transfer whole maps...

 

Make sure you copy axis values too. They are different on some maps. Try taking maps 2-17 and average them out. Then make minor adjustments and smoothing in areas of concern.

 

I don't have a map 1... but that is great advice. I was spot checking axis values as I went, but clearly I rushed through my task a bit too fast.

In any case my truck is running better than it ever has, so I'm not in a rush to fix anything. If it breaks there's my excuse to buy the last V8 Tundra lol.

That maps is now called 4WD. It would seem logical that there would be a separate map for 4HI and 4LO to me. Hopefully I can get some time to hit the dirt road tomorrow and confirm if map 13 does anything for 4LO.

I tried this, several times, and it does not save the changes. Is there anything different about changing the axis values and saving or should I bring this up on the VFTuner forum?

 

You have to double click to highlight them. Right click and copy. New map, double click top left axis, highlight all values, right click and paste.

 

Yeah, that sounds like what I did. I tried using ctrl-A to select all and holding left mouse and dragging to highlight all. I can double click and it will allow me to change the value but when I click the "save map" button and close the map, when I reopen it has returned to previous values. I think when I tried just closing the map without clicking the "save map" button, it didn't prompt me to ask if I wanted to save the changes like it didn't detect that any changes were made.

 

That's weird. I'm not sure what to tell ya....

I went out and did some driving in 4LO this morning. First I drove with my modified map 13, then I flashed to the 2.0 map 13. I did not find any evidence that map 13 controlled any shifting behavior in 4LO. Either the differences were too subtle for me to pick up on, or more likely map 13 doesn't do anything for 4LO.

So, I'm not sure what to make of this unlucky #13. I think I'm going to leave it as the 2.0 values for a while and see if I notice any weird shifting behavior. See if I can't yet flush out when map 13 is used.

Maybe you can jack the values way up or way down and find a willing test driver... That would show for sure.

 

Wonder if 13 has anything to do with ETC? We have a sport, a 4Lo, and I’m guessing ETC May have its own also. 4Hi should probably share the others I’d guess.

 

It's possible. My ECT button has been collecting dust for a while, because I don't need it anymore. I think the sport map is labeled sport - ECT; so I had assumed the ECT map was already flushed out.

Yea, to me 4HI should shift the same as 2HI. If the 4WD map is 4LO, then maybe map 13 is 4HI.

 

I was thinking the same and I may be able to play with this a bit but probably not until next weekend at the earliest. Which brings up a question, how much of a change should be made to have a very significant and noticeable effect without being a risk of damaging things? 10%? 50% ? I'm not necessarily expecting someone to have a tried and true number to answer that, just brought it up to start the conversation.

 

I don't think there is much risk of damaging anything. If you make it shift later you can always just let off the gas before over revving. If you make it shift to early you'll lug for a bit. I don't see how it would harm anything, at least if you're only doing it a few times.

 

I'm not too worried about the engine, more about the transmission trying to do something it shouldn't. I don't know if there are failsafes to prevent it from trying to shift into two gears at once?
