Was last winter when we got a lot more rain than we did this year, there's a big wash area that's city property and above it is the HQ for NASA/JPL. He somehow drove through a locked area with his FJ and some friends and got it stuck in the wash after a sand bank gave out.

He called me that night and just said he was stuck somewhere, I drove out the next morning to help and told him I wasn't going to bring my truck down there. But I would walk with him to his and see what we could do. When we got to his FJ it was half sunk in nasty wash water with oil all around it. Couple city workers already there and the cops on the way.

They were all really cool, the cops basically told him we don't want to deal with this...it's between you and the city. So the city brought out a small excavator and yanked his FJ out. It actually started up but stalled on the way up to the road, he had to get it towed home.

The first big covid lockdown literally happened the next day, shit actually now that I think about it..that might have been almost exactly one year ago.

Yeah I don't think he did but his FJ was most certainly totaled...and he was just starting to build it up too, just put bumpers/sliders/winch on it, etc. It was full of nasty wash water, definitely had electrical problems up the ass not to mention all the gear oil coming out of it when we got there.

Fuck those things, the ones that hold in the brake lines up front were a huge PITA to get off on my truck.

Just wedge a screwdriver under it and pop/pry it off?

Here’s the frame of my old 450k Tacoma after I wiped the dust off of one of the frame rails.

That’s the reflection of the trees in the paint.

@Abeyancer I almost forgot the best part

one of the city workers said they got a call from JPL that night about someone offroading in the wash and asked him what the hell he was thinking going down there, to which my friend replied 'I didn't think anyone would see us'.

city worker looks over at JPL and goes 'motherfucker they can see what's happening on the surface of Mars, what makes you think they won't see your dumb ass?"

It was a monumentally stupid move on his part, but he paid for it with the price of that FJ which hopefully taught him a valuable lesson

Every time you post that photo to tease someone in the rust belt, a 1st gen Tacoma gets scrapped at the crusher
