I have the 2.7 DCSB and I sometimes feel regretful about not having the V6 (can't afford it), so I'm doing my best to learn to love my taco. I was about to go get some bulk soil and rocks and looked up the payload capacity. Apparently the 2.7 DCSB can carry 400 lbs more than the TRD Off-Road and 465 lbs more than the Limited.

    So there's that...

Don't be envious. When all these meatheads put on full skids, two plate bumpers, topper, ray 10s, 35" tires, rtt and 300lbs in light bars the 3.5L V6 is shit slow.

Is yours also 2wd? Those also have even more payload over the 4x4. Or was that towing capacity? Probably both.

    Yes, your truck is lighter.
There’s more to payload than “pulling power”.
You have to be able to stop what you are hauling.

BTW, the 2.7 is like a mule.
We had a a 2.7 4x4 Tacoma we used on the family farm.
Over 200k and it still didn’t mind pulling the a trailer full of square bales. (Just had to watch going down hill)

Me? No, I'm one of the meatheads with full skids, two bumpers, winch, 4WD and shit slow.

The 2.7 is a proven engine that will last several hundred thousand miles. Just because you didn’t get a 3.5 doesn’t mean it’s inferior, it just means you have more space for an on board air compressor and a dual battery setup. Try squeezing that in a 3.5 without moving things over or blocking the oil cap.

The payload on my v-6 double cab long bed 4x4 is a whopping 950 pounds. That is less than my 2009 Nissan Murano AWD.

Now I'm curious. What does one do with a dual battery setup?

Apparently all Tacomas use the same running gear and suspension making the Single Cab (which I have) the highest load capacity.

Other than spend more $ on batteries? :D

They are useful for the off road/off grid folks to run other things w/o impact to the starting battery.

And they are impressive at the mall car shows:thumbsup:

Also, your signature is the best advice for me to heed if I want to be happy with my truck.

Sorry about the typo. Should say don't fret.

And yes....people worry themselves to death over stuff that a generation ago we couldn't because there was no Internet to make us paranoid

Got one of each. The 2.7 is the better truck.

Can you elaborate on "better"? (I'm looking for help here. I also want to think my 2.7 is better than all the other 3.5's out there so I don't sometimes wish I had one.)

I’ve had close to 2k #s in the bed and it didn’t really struggle. The leaf springs hated it though. I only went 20 miles.
