Upgraded my battery when the old one took a dump overnight. Went with the Northstar AGM in a group 27F. 900+ CCA. Sure spins the engine fast when starting up. There shouldn’t be an issue with that?

The starter motor is only going to draw what it needs to turn the engine. The remainder of all those amps just sit in the battery. I loved seeing people overspending on their batteries when I worked for Interstate. No-it-alls buying high CCA capacity batteries in the Southern states made me lots of $$.

If this is true then wouldn’t the starter turn and sound the same with any battery?

Batteries plus. Buy it online and pick up in store for 10% off. You realize you’re getting to be an old fart when it’s a heave to get it up and over the front grille. Pulled it out and put in my $35 Toyota Tupperware tray this evening. Heavy bastard. I keep chewing into my payload with permanent crap. I’m afraid to hit the scales and see how much I’ve lost.

    225lbs for sliders
    50lbs roof rack
    25lbs lighting
    +25lbs battery
    10lbs bed frame crap
    -10lbs cool window stickers

I remember flying into Plattsburgh New York for my final year of service. Piedmont double prop. Chatted up the guy next to me on the way and he offered me a ride from the airport to the base. We landed in a winter wonder land and walked out to his old K5 blazer with 3 feet of snow sitting on it. For the past week. I’m thinking “This is going to be interesting”. He turns the key and and it turns over slow gaining speed until about 4 seconds later it fires off and we have a nice V8 rumble. He looks at me and smiles: “Triple batteries”.

But seriously, is it a consideration? I’m assuming oiling, spark and fuel are all proportional to rpm at startup.

Nope, your starter is more happy now.A weak battery causes the starter to draw more current, this will cause more heat and wear on the brushes.

Nah, you’re good, as others have mentioned.
I just saw ‘spin’ and my mind went immediately to rod bearings.
I’m actually considering the same type of battery as yours for next winter.

Re: new battery. It likely does spin it faster. The old battery probably wasn’t putting out what the starter could draw so the engine turned over slower.

New battery is just doing things like it should.

No, if "just enuf" amperage, the starter will turn just fine. With extra amperage, it will also turn just fine. It is when you are marginal that the starter sounds sluggish.

Or up in Alberta...you need all the juice in the world to turn over any vehicle at -40!

Did your stock battery tie down work or did you have to replace it?

Good question. I don’t really know because I’m running some aftermarket bling from one of the guys on here. But I still have the original and can check for you.
