Fair enough.. I did already buy the 5.29 so I suppose the next move will be slightly larger tires. Already am trimmed up with cmc so 34-35” here I come!

Good Morning everyone! I have a 2019 TRD Off-road with a Dobinson's 3/2 lift installed. Just finished a 5.29 ECGS regear a couple of weeks ago. When we did the original lift, I had some tire balance issues (corrected) and we also did the front bearing bushing swap. I had zero issues until the regear, now however I am have driveline oscillations when cruising at higher speeds. I don't really feel them as much as I hear them. We did install a drop kit with the lift. Any Thoughts??? Thanks!

Assuming you have a double cab short bed? When you said drop kit, are you referring to the carrier bearing drop kit? Or, front diff drop kit?

I’m from Phoenix and about to jump on this train to regear. Before I do, Has anyone from AZ done a regear with SDHQ and what is the price difference? I apologize if there is a thread for this but I can only find rumors of $3k for a front and rear 5.29 install. Will they pricematch? I guess I could call both shops to find out but you guys have lots of answers about everything.

Hey buddy, I'm in the valley too. Sdhq wanted 3500 and the truck for a week back in September. I went to az differential specialists off grand ave, had the truck back in a day, 800 for install. I provided the gears. I highly recommend them.

Do the gears make the truck feel "heavy"? I'm considering this as well...I have 33's and some armor for reference.

Stock gears + skids + sliders + 33's made my truck feel heavy. Switching to 5.29s has made it drive-able on surface streets again.

    Good to hear.

Honestly, my truck feels fine. I noticed a difference for rolling weight when I put the E rated tires on, but I'm used to it at this point. I also live in a relatively flat area. My truck doesn't hunt for gears and drives OK, it just never uses 6th gear, so I feel like I'm losing some fuel mileage there. Also, I tow a travel trailer from time to time. It'd be nice to have the lower gear ratio.

Is activating the 4 wheel High the way to break in the front gears? I am getting the 5.29 installed next week. Do you follow the same routine for the rear? I thought breaking the gears on by driving 15-20 minutes then cool down 3 times would do front and rear?

    Just checking in.

I have Yukon 5.29s, have had them for 40k miles with 35s.

They are still going strong and having no issues.

Yukon, Nitro and one other company all come from the same factory out of Korea is what I understand. A bad batch is a bad batch.

I never got around to it. Honestly it’s gotten a bit quieter lately and I’ve been able to tune it out. I’m at around 9,000 miles with the gears now.

I noticed your GFC does it cause wind buffeting on the back windshield? I cannot get any owners of those systems to tell me if they have wind noise or not. Sorry to be off topic.

There is some minor wind buffeting at ~30mph, but it doesn’t happen every time. But I think it’s more to do with air pressure differentials inside the GFC at that speed than it is the back glass. Next time I hear it I will open my back window though because you’ve got me curious.
