2015 TRD Off-Road package 4WD. Cable cut at the tailgate. Is there a cable that can be bought that runs from the connection at the bed up to the camera? Or do I have to buy a new camera? I haven't taken it apart yet.

Looks like someone tried to steal your tailgate. Those wires should be thick enough that splicing them with a butt splice connector (I like the heat shrink versions) should work?

The cable is missing from the plug in near the bed up to where the cable is cut where it goes into the tailgate. I'm hoping I can just buy a cable.

If you can’t find the original connector to crimp to the cut wires, these are always a good option with heat shrink tubing

I like the heat shrink crimp connectors, although solder is always the best I think.

You can crimp and run a bit of solder on the crimp joint if you really want to. I’ve never had issues with just crimp connections and we run them on boilers and furnaces at work when we need to.
You can do the crimp connectors with the heat shrink already wrapped on it but I’d throw a longer piece of additional heat shrink on it just for added peace of mind.

I just called the dealer. Part number 82182-04012 is the cable from the harness under the bed up to the camera. I'm thinking previous owner had his tailgate stolen and then bought another stolen tailgate from CL of offerup. The tailgate on the truck now even has different VIN label than the rest of the truck. Plus it's a tailgate from a Prerunner and this truck is a 4WD. At least the color matches. Lol.

I'd use the OEM cable over repairing

I would remove the erroneous VIN sticker then have a print shop make one similar, or better yet, just forget it.

I would debadge the tailgate so there is no amateur hour confusion on the truck model

I would also secure the tailgate with at least one of the methods you can read about on here.

I would shop the salvage yards for the cable. I think that is a late '13, '14 or '15 part, because IIRC the cameras changed in mid '13.
