    Speedometer / Odometer calibrator install

lighting/wiring stuff ( although this is a little harder for me during the winter as I don't have a garage to work inside so I only really do this in the summer)

unfortunately ( or maybe fortunately) there is not a lot of tech in the 2nd gen so the only customizable option in the computer is seat belt chime as far as I know. ( and while I physically can do that it is illegal for road use)

VF tune said by early 2021 they will be rolling out Tune packs for the 4.0L 2nd gen.

I only run legit tune packs made by VF and are tested on Dynos. None of that homebrew stuff here. That being said if you found a tune file that you wanted flashed on your truck I could help you out with that.

Any chance you’d ship tailgate pad to 81328 (Mancos, CO) ?

"2009 and up 4Runners are supported. ECU IDs 35F30, 35F51, 35781, and 35801" saw this in the VF forum

    https://forum.vftuner.com/forum/toyota-4-0l-1grfe-development/42-1gr-fe

However, I did not see any tune packs available for the 4runner. On the VF forum, I did see mention of one being for sale. If you are interested I can reach out to Mat at VFtune and ask how much it would be or if it is still available.

If there is one available I would just charge you the cost of the Tune pack and credits to unlock your vin+ECUID. time/labor for freeeee. You are the first 4runner that has asked me for a tune. Its mostly just annoyed 3rd genners who want better shifting points:rofl:

I am definitely interested in the tune and what it entails. The 3rd gen guys swear by the tune and the power increases. Reading that thread it sounds like the 5th gen 4Runners don't have any shift point tune-ability but I am interested if they are going to offer 91 octane tunes and what not. Vivid has a tune which supposedly bumps it up to almost 300hp. Been patiently waiting to see if OV Tune has anything. Most 5th 4Runner guys are tune-adverse for whatever reason, which is weird because the Taco guys seem to fall all over themselves about the OV Tune

    Vivid Tune:
    • Stock Power: 270HP | 278ft/lbs
    • Stage 1 Power: 296HP | 297ft/lbs

Thanks I will look into the Vivid tune.

Ya 4runner guys seem to not care as much. I think because the Taco has issues out of the gate you notice the fix and the improvement so it feels HUGE. From the sound of the 4 runner stuff if you are a car dude you will notice if not it's more meh.

It is funny because the 5th gen groups are filled with complaints on how "slow" they are, but apparently they have never driven a 22RE lol. I am looking to go to 35's, so was thinking about a tune to help with the power loss of stepping up.

yes, a tune would help. A speedo / odo calibration module would also help your 4runners computer process it. With the newer tacomas and 4runners that can show the MPG Eco blah blah as well as some of the computers this is how fast I am ACCTUALLY going vs rpms get very inaccurate with bigger tires.

I mean ... some would say 1st gens are perfect. Just a gas pedal an engine and a locker.

That is true. Right now with 33's my speedo is almost spot on, for some reason it was off with factory tires.

Still pretty gutless with 5.29$ and a bunch of armor strapped on though.

I would worry more about the Odometer reading more miles than you have actually put on meaning you do your oil changes more often not a bad thing for the truck but sad for the wallet also if you ever want to sell it will read higher than what’s on the engine .

Those are Crank numbers - which is about 1/3 greater than actual wheel HP at the pavement. As a prior .vft user of 2.0 tunes the power is better but not great. The shifting logic is the best part. If you expect anything more you might as well get a Tundra 5.7 or a Magnuson SC. Show the Dyno for local elevation and humidity because anything without this data is baseless.

doubt the delta would be enough that changing your oil every 7000 miles would make a difference. Hell for the $$ just change it every 6000 miles! What would be the delta for a true 200000 miles?

Depending on tire size increase and what your original programming is set to for me going from the stock 265 to my 285/75/17 it’s about a 10% variance ( unless I am understanding it wrong) so over 100 miles not a big deal over the life of the truck would add up

I used this to compare my tire sizes ... I’m not exactly sure how gearing plays into all this
