1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

Really appreciate it but I am up in St Louis right now (college in MS family in St. Louis Missouri). I drove it like it was for a while and I checked the gear set as much as I could without cracking it open and didn’t see any chips cracks or anything. Currently in the process of flushing it out a lot hoping I can get away with it. If it blows I might reach out to you or find another 4.10 somewhere or it might be the time to regear.

Anyone recommend a way to flush metal out of the diff other than full fill, drive around a few miles then drain and fill? I was thinking fill it half way so I’m not wasting as much oil or try to pull the plug and let the oil run for a half second then plug the hole, clean the magnet, then put the plug back and top off the fluid.

 

Mine too like 30 minutes per side or less to do? Including taking pictures. Right @Empty_Lord ?

If all we were doing was the ball joints it would've taken an hour yeah. But pressing the new bushings in took some time. Little over 2 hour job all together

Uppers just came off with a hammer tap. Was surprised, my LBJs needed a puller

 

He's got the tools to pop those suckers out of the knuckle now.

 

I had to press my uppers out.


If I’m replacing the LBJ I’ll just hit it with a hammer till it comes out.

 

He coulda had the tools for free from any part store

 

Air hammer or brass hammer is all you need... no special tools
