Actually yours aren’t flipped. They were in the stock orientation (bolt head at the radiator and nut at the firewall) I didn’t see any signs of the apron being previously bent either but having removed and installed at least 60 UCAs on different 2nd and 3rd gen tacomas, all trucks are a little different. Some come out super easy by removing a couple brackets and bending the apron a bit while others fight you the whole time. I’m sure it has something to do with Toyota completing the suspension before mounting the cab on the frame and the body bushings having a little play. The body can be mounted at least 1/2” out of alignment left to right and front to back.

FWIW, In all that time I’ve never once cut a bolt and/or installed it backwards.

That's good to know, when Jason did the install in 2016 I didn't recall it getting flipped so that makes sense. I'm glad we didn't have to bend anything lol.

 

Stainless steel and all modular. It's a flat bed with the cap added. Around $13k for the set tho. But, you could do a little over time since it is modular.

These really are cool. That one is aluminium, so should be lighter. Or at least looks it.

 

It’s not that bad really. I have some huge channel locks for that job specifically. Just a nudge out of the way but it leaves tooth marks in the paint right where you grab the apron. It’s usually covered by the fender well liners.

this being my first time doing UCAs on a first gen it was definitely a lot easier than 2nd and 3rd gens. Pleasantly surprised.

 

I don't think you would need one, iirc Sergio was telling me the SPCs are the only arms he's worked with that needed a press to fit the bushings in. In fact you guys might have the same Icon arms

 

Interesting that they left the factory hitch there.

 

Would be nice to have a fiberglass option. Less weight, maybe not quite as durable as aluminium or stainless but still platy strong. Would make it easier to remove when not in use or you just need the flat bed.

He's got Icon arms but I don't remember if they're the uniball or delta joint ones

 

Yeah, there probably isn't an off the shelf and fully rated hitch thats up higher. I didn't find anything when i looked before building mine.
