What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

These are the same people who think it's Toyota's fault when their trucks' frame rusts away. Can't stand that "It's a truck so it's supposed to look like shit" mentality. Not all trucks are contractor rigs. Most are DD's just like cars. No reason they should be treated any different with regard to care.

 

Nothing yet until parts arrive but I did buy some @ragofabrication bed stiffeners today. DD SS3 Sport Fogs are also on the list for purchase from @memario1214 today, gotta try and fit in with all the cool kids (mostly I'd like to see in inclement weather).

 

Yep... I really enjoy detailing my truck. Though vehicles are the worst investment you can spend money on, they are not cheap and I take pride in and enjoy a clean vehicle ... so I get it.

My truck is my DD that averages about 37k miles a year. But she goes adventuring as often as I can muster... so she’s got scratches from tip to tail. Small dents from tree branches, and the armor needs touched up frequently.

I don’t want my truck to look like shit. But if I try to keep her sparkly clean all the time it’s a bit of a waste. I washed the hell out of my truck. Then three days later spontaneous off-roading trip in the desert. Which gained me a 6’ scratch down the length of the camper shell.

If your truck is just a tough looking commuter car, then great, baby it. Coddle it. But some people just don’t use their truck like that.

Point is, we all treat our vehicles differently based on our viewpoints, needs, and free time.

 

Yep. I was just sharing what I know about detailing. personally I love breaking out a cigar, some bourbon and taking 2 days and just making my baby shine...(FYI... just a little bourbon) but it’s relaxing for me and it’s productive.

 

What I have discovered over my years of 4wheeling and detailing is that the cleanup after some wheeling is often much easier when the vehicle has has some level of paint care ... just an observation based on experience.

it’s also a great way to enjoy time with other like-minded taco owners. like a wrenching party but for detailing. I use to invite friends over and we would smoke steaks and hang while detailing someone’s ride. Ends up being a lot of fun... good company, good food, and someone gets their ride looking amazing.

 

I wash mine once a week and take pride in how clean it "usually" stays. When it's time to go off-road, who cares, but the rest of the time I like my truck to be clean. I'm the same way with my patrol car and other vehicles.

 

That sounds awesome and I'm moving to Va just so we can be friends. I also completely agree. After wheeling I can wash my entire truck with my pressure washer and foam cannon in about an hour. It allows me to more quickly identify and repair any damage mechanically or to the body so that I can potentially repair. Living in the city my entire life, let me reassure you. It doesn't need to be an adventure rig to get scratches, pinstripes, and dings.

This was the work of a disgruntled homeless woman a few years back....no where near as cool as the dirt covered trucks, she smeared dog shit, stacked trash on, left some pinstripes, and deflated one of my tires.

 

As a side note.....funny to see the truck with ZERO mods back then. They grow up so quickly.

 

I also pressure wash mine after wheeling trips that get muddy within a day or two. And have been thinking about having it detailed/paint corrected just to extend the life of the paint job.

On top of the wheeling and road trips, I also live down a 1/4mile dirt road, so keeping her clean is pretty futile.

 

I have a membership to Tidal Wave Auto Spa which allows unlimited washes per month, and it does a really good job, so this is the only reason why mine stays as clean as it does. If I had to hand wash it only, it would be more like once a month. lol

 

I’m my area every car wash is the brush type, which I cannot use with my roof rack. I killed one once (oops). I finally found a single touch free wash with undercarriage wash about 20 minutes away. So I will likely be washing like that a little more often.
