Vandy – I'm in MT and have done quite a bit of testing on temps, detailed in my thread on the GFC forum.

What panel color did you choose? The white goes a long way towards keeping things cool. I also installed a small solar overhead fan, which is helpful, but when everything is closed it struggles due to lack of intake. I'm considering adding intake vents on my panels for this summer.

Is that a 7ft garage you’re parked in?

Not quite. It's an under-sized garage, called a 1.5 car size in a 1985 built condo. I've adjusted the door to max clearance and the beef rack has about an inch to spare.

80.5" up to the top of the Beef Rack. Door opening is 81.75". Close

Going on a 3ish month road trip this summer out of the GFC, so needed a little more comfort. I think this Exped Megamat 10 MW will do the trick.

Hi all, I’m picking up a v2 soon and deciding between black or white for my MGM trd off road. Is there a noticeable difference in interior temperature between the two? I and surf daily and store surfboard during the day at work and it gets obviously toasty. I pop a side window open on my ARE Zseries at the moment.

also, any suggestions for how to sell the cap? These things are quite heavy and awkward to transfer from what I’ve heard

as far as selling the cap, facebook marketplace or craigslist, or use the bay area for sale page on here (probably somewhere here :)
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/northern-california.42/

they are easy to transfer, takes a few people to lift them, 3-4 would work. its pretty simple.

black, as it will look the best just my 2 cents thou. they all get hot, although someone did do some temp readings across different colors somewhere

Definitely a noticeable interior temp difference between black / white. I have white and still take precautions (parking into the sun, popping panels 1-2", roof exhaust fan) to keep temps down for my dog. The black panels I've seen got hot to the touch, which is something I've never experienced with the white panels. That heat transfers pretty directly to the air in camper. I have a friend who insulated their black panels but I think it's still a losing battle.

    From my GFC forum thread:

Did some fan testing on a 70F day in full sun:
    • Fan on exhaust mode, everything sealed – 10+ degrees hotter than outside air, rising slowly
    • Fan on exhaust mode, panels closed but resting on closed latches to create small air gap (not driving, obv) – still slightly hotter than outside air, but stabilizes. Delta decreases significantly when truck is facing into the sun
    • Fan on exhaust mode, panels open, truck facing into sun – cooler than outside air

Does anyone have just the Platform RTT installed? I haven't been able to find any pictures of one installed on a Tacoma. I'm thinking of ordering one to go on my short bed. I have a Snugtop rebel with the sportsman package so its reinforced along with the Prinsu top rack and cab rack. From what I can gather the mounting brackets will add 1" between the tent and the top rack. So that would raise it 1" off the cab rack and leave enough space for flex.

+1, def an easy process. In preparation for my GFC install I sold my shell on FB marketplace for about 200 less than I listed it for. The guy showed up with a friend. Me, my gf, and those two were able to lift and shift no problem.

One thing to keep in mind--your buyer may not realize they need access to their bed rails. The guy that bought my shell still had his tonneau cover installed when he showed up. Removal is easy enough, but the very last bolt to the tonneau frame was stripped. His buddy ended up having to go to home depot to buy an easy out, chisels, etc., and then break the head off the bolt.

Long story short...tell your buyer to come with an empty bed. It'll save you a few awkward hours of troubleshooting

Thanks for all the responses guys.

I’m going to go with the white camper. I kinda prefer the look as well on an mgm truck.

All great points on selling the camper. I’ll keep all these in mind and sell it on Craigslist.

I think that should look good with MGM.

On my white truck, I am going to do a black camper. My aftermarket bumpers are white, so I think if the camper is white too, it will be too much white

Bummer they don't have a grey standard anymore. If it were me I would be tempted by the new grey, but understand not wanted to pay any more than you already have.

The old grey on my MGM trucks looks pretty good IMO.

Good to hear, I'm in the Bay Area with black on MGM. I would hate to get in your truck by accident someday. :D I've never noticed a heat issue. Even in Nevada, it seemed cooler than any fiberglass shell ever was.

My truck - white bumpers, future black camper with tangerine fabric. ( I dont have my Prinsu anymore either)

Ive had a contractor cap on my truck a few years ago, and it just looks like a work truck. Something that I don't want to look like
