Now my wife is sending me pictures. She just took this one on 99 at I-10 coming back north from Sugarland.

I am on the fence about how the viper cut looks, but I know that it does provide more clearance for oversized tires. I've been contemplating it to get rid of the rub with my high offset wheels and 33" tires. I agree it doesn't provide added height clearance, but does allow larger tire clearance, as well as clearance for a more dramatic approach angle when wheeling.

or you can just get an aftermarket bumper. It’ll end up costing you the same in the end.

I hate to do this. But I saw a real nice white taco pro with a lift and tires pulling a small tear drop camper on 20 west to day. But as the story goes....... I didn't get a picture.:(:( but I did get the 2 finger wave when I went by @Burica. :bananadance:

Not sure I follow you on cost, my preferred bumper would be a full hybrid bumper but it costs $1,200+. A viper cut costs my time, ~$15 for the edge trim and $150 if I had to buy a Dremel. I’m still nowhere near the full bumper cost with the viper cut. And with a viper cut, you could argue you’re making the truck lighter, albeit trivial at about pound . An aftermarket bumper adds a decent amount of weight, and this v6 engine is already struggling as it is.

Like I said, I’m on the fence, but I don’t think it looks as heinous as you guys seem to think it does. Not like it matters, I’m a long way from Texas anyway so it’s not like you’ll see me out on the streets anyway.

Are you not running a lift? I don’t see how 33’s would rub so bad that you would have to cut such an extreme amount off. Maybe that’s just me though. We all do what we want to our trucks to make ourselves, the drivers happy. Others opinions shouldn’t matter in the end.

I’ve got 5100 billies with 885 springs. Lifts the front about 2”. I think the reason I rub is the -32 offset on my SCS Ray10 wheels. I’ve done the cab mount chop, welded On a plate and asp trimmed/melted/reformed the fender liner a good deal. To be clear though, it’s not a constant rub, mainly full tilt turn in reverse.
Agree with your final statement wholeheartedly.

The offset is likely the largest factor for sure.

I finally got mine to stop rubbing last week, had to move the fender liner (drivers side is always worse) about an inch forward and then trim the bumper to match the contour.

When my 33’s were brand new I had the slightest amount of rub also on the bumper, when turning to the right and reversing.
