I’ll continue to watch with great interest. Patiently been waiting since 2016 since I knew how good the 2nd gen kit performed, so I’ll have to give the 3rd gen kit a bit more time to mature I suppose.

The stock kit for the 2nd gen only gained 29% for reference compared to 32% on the 3rd gen.
We just don’t have the aftermarket or HPtuners support for the 3rd gen yet so very few of us have added to the stock kit numbers because there are very few dyno shops that will make a tune for us.

Power is worth every penny. It’s not a race car

It’s faster than my race cars lol.
I’ve spent thousands squeezing 10 extra HP out my Opel engines. Power only comes cheap on engines with huge after market support like LS or engines with major manufacturing defects that can be remedied.

I felt the same but I have ruled out the turbo's since they seem like a ways from being available and I am looking mostly for better towing and cruising performance with less complexity (OVTune is badass and doing a great job!). Also nobody's mentioned but I believe the Eaton 1900 blower is the same as the 5.7L application.

Having HP Tuners support isn't going to change any of the stock fueling limits.

Everyone seems to think it's software related (tuning, or lack of ability in the software) that's not the case, our software has every tunable parameter imaginable AND custom code to make supercharger tuning possible that other software suites don't offer at all for toyotas.

The fact that our software offers full close loop fuel tuning feedback with custom 3D tables means if you were to tune just off the stock tables and code your tune is likely to be worse, not better. As we expand our boost tuning patches it will only make things even better.

You guys should just talk to shops and get them on board with the platform. Making more power on this truck is not hard it makes a lot of power from a little bit of boost.

Obviously, HP Tuners would be a competitor software, and we aren't just trying to upsell our software, we have a dedicated high horsepower truck and everything we do is tested specifically for the purpose of making more power possible on the stock ECU.

I don’t have any doubt that your software can handle it. It obviously works on your turbo kits and half of the NA trucks in this site.

But most dyno shops are not going to spend the time to learn a new program to tune 1 or 2 trucks even if it is a superior program. At least I’m not enough of a salesman to convince them.

I do know there is some potential for more fine tuning on the magnuson kit, because there is one guy who has had his truck dyno tuned using vftuner and got an extra ~15HP.

The shops around me pretty much exclusively use HPtuners and the other big names unfortunately.

the stock tune is fine, but an out of the box tune is never as dialed as a custom one naturally.

It is an unfortunate truth. The sucky part would be though is on these bigger brand software options, if they don't work towards re-writing the stock code like we do, you'd very likely get a worse tune than magnusons (which uses our custom patch features, full time fuel closed loop target, etc).

The most critical part of boost tuning is adequate fueling, and the stock codes fuel control is lack luster. That's why we rewrote it to a simple, easy to use AFR table that the ECU will get what you want.

Whatever. It's a free message board so do what you want, and if you just want to see yourself type then go for it, but it brings absolutely nothing to the table, and now that's what i'm doing too. So go ahead and tell people about all the mods you wouldn't buy. Just doesn't make sense to me.

Adding the Magnuson SC has made every driving experience enjoyable - it is simply amazing how easy the truck moves from a stop, holding a constant speed or accelerating to pass. You find yourself using less skinny pedal because you simply don't need to continue to press it to go. My combined mpg is 20 which is not bad at all. I did my own install and the satisfaction of this type of work only makes the entire experience better and the cost of the kit easier to justify. I will say it would have been nice if the kit cost less - but considering the options, of which there are a couple, the Magnuson is by far the best, and the one with the sustained and proven track record - just look at what did for the Gen 2. I had a v6 Gen2 MT and my Gen3 V6 AT is hands down a better truck and even more so now with the SC.

I wish I got 20mpg.. I'm averaging 13.5 mpg after the install over 5k miles. Which is actually up from about 12.6mpg pre-SC doing similar driving.
The truck is infinitely more enjoyable to drive though! Highway cruising is pretty much effortless and the truck will stay in 5th and 6th gears unless I'm going up a steep grade.

You’re basically saying, “if you have an opinion that agrees with me then I want to hear it, if you disagree I don’t want to hear your viewpoint.” I dunno, when I am doing something I like to hear both sides and know pro’s and con’s from dissenting views. It’s how I make informed decisions.

I neglected to put a boost gauge on when I installed and now I want one. Anyone have a recommendation on what fitting to use and where to feel around on the back to find the plug?

Honestly. After having installed the boost gauge after the SC was installed I think it would be quicker to take the SC off rather than fumbling around with that boost port

I used a 90* 1/8 Male NPT fitting and left the female side pointing straight up. Then the 1/8" fitting that comes with the boost gauge threads in to that.

I'm curious did anybody have a 2nd gen with the s/c now have a 3rd gen with the s/c? How does it compare?

No. I'm saying if you have something that furthers the discussion of a supercharger then cool, but all you added was that you can't beat a Camry so it's not worth it. 32% increase is a great power boost, but you're not judging it on that merit, or on it being in a Tacoma. You're wanting to race completely different classes of vehicles, and if you want to do that, fine, but you've got to rethink your tacoma build for that. Lightweight, suspension to hook, gears, etc. Just like you did for the mustang. Hell an 80's Ferrari can't beat a new camry. So never get one of those either.

Anyway I was calling out what I thought was a worthless comment, and it's not like yours was the only one so I'm sorry for quoting yours and making you feel like you have to defend yourself, but as you said everyone has opinions. Can we drop it now and get back to superchargers?

What other options could you buy right now? URD i think they only install at their shop (so being 5+ hour drive away is not tempting) and OV tuned is still waiting on parts for the first sell batch. I dont see any other viable options.
