I recently had a Fiberglas cap installed on my 2020 TRD Sport. Before the installer started with the cap, he removed the front rail/cap on the truck box (next to cab) & bedded it with something waterproof. Don't know if the product was caulk type or a gasket/seal. Bottom line, no leaks!
Leaks & dust coming into the back of the box, is another story. Speed of vehicle & intensity of dust/water/spray are all part of the equation. You'd need some type of positive pressure or gasket system that I've never seen on the market. Keep in mind that the truck box & tailgate flex while going over uneven surfaces like a city curb, etc.

The Extang foam rubber inserts suck. With heavy rain I was having water wicking through or beneath the material. I ended up taking them out and filling the gap with urethane caulk (better than silicone). Problem solved.

Does anybody have a part number for the plastic trim that goes along the top of the box/bed on the left and right side? Preferable one that has the OEM bed cover. Reason that one specific is so there’s no cutting for installing the plugs. As it should come pre-cut if the truck came with a cover. Or if somebody has one that came with the truck from the dealer I could look it up by your Vin number or you could look it up and give me the part number. Thanks Chuck

It's what I did and it works well. I also pulled the bedside caps, the header rail, and the tailgate cap and laid butyl tape underneath. Just make sure you can't see daylight and you'll be in a good spot.

Yes, all that stuff seems to be working well. I do have a little leak in the gasket at the top of the rear window... I think the glue they used failed in one area.
