thanks, that was one of the first ones I saw when I started looking ($28 on Amazon) and decided to put what is probably the exact same thing just Toyota priced ($73) in the cart at McGeorge. Lemme rethink that...

Famous words from 40 years ago. So companies had to race to buy 4GL software to get rid of those nasty programmers.

Though used earlier in papers and discussions, the term 4GL was first used formally by James Martin in his 1981 book Applications Development Without Programmers to refer to non-procedural, high-level specification languages.

Then came PCs and PDAs and computers with tiny processors that needed low-level languages for applications to run fast and keeping IO to a minimum.

The same old problem on a different box -- just a smaller box.

So C and C++ became the new macro-level assembler and Java replaced COBOL to provide platform-independent code. We have more programmers now than ever.

Yeah, I'm not sure why I didn't just stop looking when I found the aisin fan on Amazon knowing it would be the same fan I'd get from Toyota only without having to pay extra for the Toyota name.

I worked in self driving cars for a few years (Cruise owned by GM and Honda) and there's no doubt that tons of truck driver jobs are going away soon. Next will be delivery drivers, then taxis. The road will be a much safer place but if you're entering the workforce as a driver, I would be afraid.

Reminds me of a 80s toyota pickup. Too bad it's just vaporware.

I don't think a massage therapist would need to worry about being replaced by a robot.

 

At least until the robots get tired of our shit, form their own society, and then enslave us.

 

A lot of what people consider "robots" in manufacturing arent even really robots. At least not in a spooky AI type of way. They are programmed often with a proprietary software to perform a task based on what input/output conditions they are given. They dont learn or adapt, they do what they are programmed to do and thats it. They function more like the ECU in your car than anything else, adjust the outputs based on the inputs its given. Program it once and its good until it goes to the scrap heap.
