Hello all, I just bought a used 2017 Tacoma trd sport with about 43k miles. It’s my first Tacoma and I’ve been seeing and hearing videos about the tick/tap/knock. None that I’ve heard sound like the one my truck has I think I might actually have rod knock. Can you guys let me know please I will upload a video so you guys can hear

That’s not a rod knock.

 

Take it to the dealer and have them FLASH the computer if its still under the mileage for the powertrain warranty. Might fix your issue without you spending $. My 17 has been making strange noises since I bought it new but the FLASH did help!

 

Mine is 2020 and sounds like that, almost like a diesel. I thought I read somewhere on here it’s normal and has to do with the lifters.

 

I’m asking because I hear the lifters but that other noise in the background sounds like metal on metal and it speeds up as I accelerate but sometimes I can’t hear it. I bought it used at a Chevy dealer but they said I have warranty with them and possibly Toyota as well. Hopefully it’s not bad because I’ve enjoyed it the two days I’ve driven it
