If you are used to driving manual, having your foot sitting on brakes for sometimes an hour and a half to get from downtown LA to TO is the kind of boring words cannot adequately express.

As for constantly clutching in, Leave it in first if it’s that bad and pay a little attention with your gap and you won’t be clutching in every 2 seconds.

Automatic Taco might as well be a different truck, that’s how different the lack of speed and power the factory auto programming is compared to my S2000 driving style on the Pro manual.

I’m pretty sure one is for the trans , one is for a high low box called a browny and the other goes to the 2 speed rear diff . It’s a lot of shit to remember.

Looking at swapping a 4 banger 2015 AT for a 2013 MT. How do they compare?

People can argue MT vs AT all day long as far as the v6 is concerned, but with 2.7l 4cyl Tacomas the MT will always be better.

    I'm putting a list together.

    Happy Friday!

I drove a 2007 4.0l MT and a 2009 2.7l MT. Both had almost 150k on the odo. They felt as tight as my new 2017 MT. Out of the box, the 4.0l felt natural round town but winded in the upper revs. The 2.7l was great for what it was. If either were reasonably priced, I would have grabbed one. In the end, new was easier to afford.

My 3rd Gen has a lighter clutch with an engage point that was further out than I was expecting (easily adjusted to) and was pretty soft in the bottom end of the rev band. With the OV Tune, I would say that the 3.5l has a stronger bottom end and top end compared to the Stock 4.0l.

I think you would be happy with a 2nd or 3rd Gen MT?

Edit: I assumed 4.0l 2013. Still though, that 2009 2.7l MT was really nice.

Are they both 4 bangers? If so, the MT will feel like a different truck. More responsive and it won’t feel as underpowered.

yes, Current truck is the 2015 2.7 and looking at a 2023 2.7. I've had a string of Gen 1 4 cyl MT's, the 2015 is my first Gen 2. It just feels a little sluggish, and was hoping the MT would be better. I know about the V6 arguments. I've not driven a V6 MT, but have driven a Gen 3 V6 AT. I do lots of light trailers on small hills in Maine. The thing that really drives me nuts about the AT is the shift mechanism in the Gen 2. Boat launching and light plowing there is lots of reverse to forward. I really miss that rev to second LR I had on my Gen 1.

My 93 is a manual which I prefer. My new 2021 is an automatic mainly because traffic fricken sucks with a manual! Definitely some weird shifting with the automatic but when do we really get to open up the throttle without getting into trouble? Manual or automatic in the snow?? Manual for sure. My two cents.

It’s a lot better. I converted my truck from AT to MT. I can say for sure the MT makes a big difference.

I am trying real hard not to break my rule about buying new vehicles, looking at a V6 Access with a MT.

So fun to drive! Especially if you wind it out. I usually drive like a grandpa keeping one eye on the mileage readout in the center gauge cluster and while still enjoyable to control when I shift, when I ignore mileage and get the revs up the truck feels a lot peppier!
