Busy day today even with snow here, getting the truck ready finally installed BAMF shock relocation. King 12”, and BAMF hammer hangers and shackles basically an all new rear end minus leaf springs.

 

ok kiddos, it's game time. benches are hard mounted, tops getting built out tomorrow, then cladding very soon.

After all this is in place where I want, then comes the big old chimney hole

Should have most everything done by my Bend trip - maybe not the fireplace just yet but at least the lower level benches.

Part of me thought about pulling rip chord and just going with a diesel heater, but I think the fireplace will be way cooler in the long run.

Worse case spend a little more $ and have a local fab** guy look at it haha.

 

The hinges and latch setup was more tricky than I would have liked. Calling an audible for some mini toggle latches. Getting everything lined up perfectly inside the "boxes" was quite a task.

Looking sharp, starting to plan mine out in Sketchup.
Any regrets about going with tnutz series 10?

 

Not really. I would maybe try to support the longer bench more with some sort of internal frame/crossmember setup, but I need to add another bedrail strut too which will help with the deflection I'm seeing when I sit in the middle.

I don't see any reason to go to a larger extrusion.

 

I was checking out the series 20 stuff to maybe save a little weight, but seems like that weight savings would be eaten up with additional support struts and such. Still may try to work in to some parts though.

 

Yea, the biggest thing to keep in mind on your CAD is that the bed tapers out from bottom to top. I didn't account for this and made it work with longer bedrail cross supports to bolt everything in, which ultimately made my hinge configuration tricky and it will need to be redone at some point.

Holding off until I have camper installed for final measurements.

Nice setup. Do you keep all of your bedding in the net and/or do you leave some of the bedding in the tent? The mattress is super comfy, it just took some trial and error to roll it up like a sleeping bag to deflate and then flatten back out to allow us to close the camper with our bedding.

 

Someone with a laser scanner should get out there and scan the 2nd/3rd gen short and long beds so we can have a good CAD of the bed to play with!

I do for now. Upstairs is the mattress and Pendleton blanket. I didn't want to risk having bedding upstairs until I gave it a true northwest rain test for a while to ensure everything would stay dry. That plus we are running two 0F bags, so they are rather bulky - come summertime I'll keep things upstairs and close it up (hopefully without moving the mattress).

The rollup is a good idea, but would be a lot of time spent messing given how much I use the camper.
